not living at home so it cannot be too large to carry back on public transport

As you’ve indicated that she’s a job seeker you must presumably feel there are particular things she might need or want, beyond generic ‘young woman’ gifts?

Looking back to a similar period in my life, and at the student members of my family, what would be most welcome is money - for clothes, shoes, decent bag, transport (fares or petrol), tech upgrades, hotel stays for distant interviews … Is any of that relevant to your daughter?

What does she seem to lack (if anything) when you speak to her?

Myyearmytime · 05/12/2023 13:40

I was going to suggest money as well.
But if you want give something to open .
Something for kitchen slow cooker /air fryer .

WillowTit · 05/12/2023 18:11

thank you,
money tends to get spent sadly, frittered.
perhaps i could get her some shoes

What else is relevant about her? As in, other than being a job seeker, what does she like? When I was looking for work, I would have hated gifts being focused on "you could wear this to interviews".

Nice, little luxuries she might not be able to afford for herself that she would like too? Or upgrades to her existing stuff? (coat, better shoes - or new shoes - v nice consumables?). Vouchers if you think money would be frittered?

WillowTit · 05/12/2023 18:19

yes a voucher sounds good

I don't see what being a Job Seeker has to with it 🤷
What is she interested in?

RADIOOFF · 05/12/2023 18:39

The point is - the OP has chosen ‘job seeker’ as the crucial piece of information on her daughter. Why? Something is playing on @WillowTit‘s mind …

And then the ‘frittering’. Is it that you don’t think she’s trying hard enough to get a job?

PPs are right - it’s not the obvious descriptor for a gift recipient.

WillowTit · 05/12/2023 18:45

oh, perhaps i should have said graduate.

@RADIOOFF i was after gift suggestions, that is all, something that may be useful

Are you saying that your DD would appreciate some luxuries as she can't afford them, Op?

For my similar aged DD (in a low pay job), I buy her nice makeup and skincare that she couldn't afford herself.

WillowTit · 05/12/2023 18:57

thanks @Motnight Motnight, sounds another good plan

Would she benefit from smart clothes for job interviews?

Needmorelego · 05/12/2023 19:09

@WillowTit we need a bit more of her clue about interests.
I'm somewhat older but my Christmas list this year is Lego, Books and a colouring book.

@WillowTit no Lego 😱 I am disappointed in her 😂
Is there an author she always used to read that has a new book out this year?
I am hoping for the latest Sophie Kinsella.

Turmerictolly · 05/12/2023 19:17

Yes, nice make up voucher or a voucher for perfume.

WillowTit · 05/12/2023 19:20

@WillowTit it's ok.....more Lego for me 😂

CheshireCat1 · 05/12/2023 19:23

Fluffy warm dressing gown, a wool scarf and socks, some luxury skin care, vouchers for local eateries, a spa treatment, a planner and a good quality pen, cinema vouchers, fancy chocolates.

Catopia · 05/12/2023 19:33

A smart coat if she does not have one.
A portable phone charger is really helpful if you are travelling here there and everywhere for interviews etc on trains which do not necessarily have charging sockets.
A railcard maybe if relevant?
