3yo boy who has everything!

Really struggling with gift ideas for DS. Just turned 3 (Nov birthday) and has everything. Literally. The next youngest “kid” in mine and DHs family is 18 😅 so he’s been well and truly spoiled by all!
I have my parents, DHs parents (separated), our grandparents and aunties/uncles etc all asking for ideas.

We don’t live close to any farm parks/soft plays etc (and I’m unable to drive for medical reasons) so season tickets etc aren’t really an option for us.

DH and I usually have a set budget for gifts. We have got him a few bits to open and the rest of the money will go into his bank until there’s something he wants or he can save it for when he’s older. No other family is happy doing money or vouchers - must be “something for him to open”.

Please me what you’re getting your 3yo boy? Or what they loved at that age. Or what is he likely to enjoy over the next year or so?

My twins will be 4 Xmas week (dear God why didn't we plan that better!!)

You said he's got hot wheels, but which bits? There's lots of smaller sets you can build with the larger sets to make a course. Twins are having the crocodile and the gorilla but there's also the dinosaur and lots of other bits.

Pajamas are always weirdly loved, I've just brought fluffy Grinch ones

Books, obviously.

I've suggested to Nanny anything that's Spidey and Friends

What size Lego does he have? We moved from the massive chunky stuff to the medium sized stuff but this year they're getting proper Lego (not sets, just loose)

New coat? Boots?

Swing ball for the garden?

Play dough because we're always running out. Paper, paper and more paper.

Leapfrog pad?

NameChange30 · 01/12/2023 09:46

Games my 3yo likes: Hungry Hippos, Orchard Toys shopping list.

NameChange30 · 01/12/2023 09:48

Does he have a nice toddler-size backpack? That's a good practical gift if he doesn't already have one.

Child-size umbrella (DD persuaded me to get her one in the shop the other day! Seemed a bit of a silly purchase but she is delighted with it!)

@Inyourwildestdreams my 5 year old is obsessed with hot wheels both the cars and the monster trucks.. have seen the speed track advertised on fb and thought maybe it might be worth it for him!

We are also considering the magnatiles downhill duo set as a way of making tracks for cars

Whisperingangel1 · 02/12/2023 09:05

What about activity sets - I've out together a dinosaur themed baking set for my DS - Dino cookie cutters, Dino sprinkle, cake toppers, sugar eyes abs silly faces, icing pens etc, apron.
Also made a potion kit with different coloured bath dusts, bath bombs, dried flowers, cokour changing bubble bath, squirty bath foam
-Would they be willing to buy say a course of lessons for rugby tots, DS3 loves going. Perhaps they could take him and its something they do with him.
-Other big hits - hot wheels monster truck dinosaur arena and the Dino race/garage track.
-Remote control monster truck
-Tractor Ted backpack
-Walkie talkies
-What about one of the monthly subscription boxes you can get - nature themed or books/baking for kids

Smiggle have great toddler sized backpacks, cars, dinosaurs, plain, footballs, princesses- whatever he happens to be into!

Flower0503 · 02/12/2023 20:17

Here is another garage with a lift, my son has been using it since July turned 3, needed a bit of help with the lift for first couple of months. Also lots of hotwheels cars to park in the parking spaces! Its not that bad for how much space it takes up.

Thank you all for your ideas 😊 really appreciate it!

As a side question - how are so many kids into characters? 😅 posts on here and other threads that I’ve searched are all about characters at this age. I seen someone else post on another thread that “anything Spider-Man” is perfect at 3 because that’s usually the theme of every birthday party etc. Or Paw Patrol/marvel superheroes etc. My DS literally wouldn’t have a clue who they were 😅 He’s our oldest though - is it mainly from having older siblings? Or should I be actively teaching my child these characters etc 😅

I think it depends on siblings but also parents too. I'm a huge disney fan so there's always been disney films on the tv and on various items! My dd loved humming the star trek theme tune and her favourite characters at 4 was dangermouse and stitch when all the other girls were into frozen 🤣

I work with preschoolers and most of them like a character (book or tv) or an animal of some sort! These can be fleeting interests or ones that last a long time!

Op tell the family one small toy less than £10 and clothes, or bank the money.
That amount of toys is ridiculous and will do your head in trying to keep them tidy and store.

If they insist on filling your house with stuff be absolutely ruthless and charity shop or sell some of it.

Agree.

We opened a junior isa for ours. The amount of stuff they have is absolutely grotesque.

My son had his 4th birthday party this weekend, and his favourite present by miles and miles was a projector torch. He actually got two, one which projects pictures of dinosaurs and one does trucks and cars, but you can get them for all the usual preschool interests (space, animals, mermaids etc etc). They cost about £8.

Since yesterday afternoon all he has been doing is shining the torch in his room with the lights off and making us come and watch him "projecting". I would definitely recommend this as a stocking filler type gift.

@SootspriteSearcher I’m a Disney fan too 😊😂 We haven’t really introduced much tv time yet and I don’t have it on during the day but I’m sure DS will develop his favourites when he starts watching stuff 😊
He loves Winnie the Pooh books and all the Julia Donaldson stories and their characters. I guess I just always think of all the superhero movies etc as being for older kids but they’ll pick up a huge amount from older siblings 😊

@Sleepsleepsleep123 He does have a Junior ISA. DH and I do small bday and Xmas gifts and just put money in his account as other family “don’t believe that’s a gift” and must get him a physical present 🙄

Well, the more Lego/duplo you have the bigger the tower you can build lol

i was a nanny for triplets who had LOADS of duplo and they used to love when I made life size duplo people that looked like them 😂

as a kid we were given lots of hand me down boxes of Lego and I built the biggest pyramid ever lol

comfyshoes2022 · 04/12/2023 01:22

I agree about some of the consumables / practical gifts that have been mentioned. Some things I haven’t seen mentioned yet but that could be fun: kids’ electric toothbrush, new pajamas with a favorite theme, something fun for eating (cool new water bottle, fun utensils or food picks, etc.). I also have gotten children’s wall clocks with fun characters, and little kids also love personalized photo books like from Shutterfly with their family and friends. 3yos can always use a new sticker book, too.
