Children's gift - thoughts

Have about 6 children's gifts to get between age 4-12. One boy the rest girls...trying not to buy toys or clothes as they get so many plus they all love a bit of "spending" in the shops.
A Waterstones gift card, small sweet item like selection box or sweets they like and a bath bomb? Trying to keep around £15 per child or less. Would your child like this or is it crap?

A voucher and sweet treat is fine, Mine would struggle with Waterstones voucher though, despite loving books.

I think a gift card and chocolates is a lovely gift. Waterstones is nice as they have games and toys as well.

Sounds good to me - my 8yo would love this.

Every year we ask for books if people ask us what DS would like and people rarely buy them and instead he gets loads of plastic stuff that he’s bored of before the NY. Books are great particularly if they can pick them themselves.

Sounds good. Personally I prefer bubble bath to bath bombs.

Make sure you get a Waterstones voucher and not a National Book Token voucher.
The Waterstones one can be spent on anything in Waterstones. The Book Token can only be used on books.

I was going to say the reverse. If you get a national book token, it’s definitely for books and can be used lots of places!

They also never run out of date. I have found some 23+ year old book tokens that got caught in some old papers… still valid!! 😊😊😊😊

My children would like this.

When I was a child I had an aunt that would buy me a WH Smith’s voucher every year and I really looked forward to receiving it and still remember the joy of going to choose my book now.

Needmorelego · 29/11/2023 17:37

@Realfastfoodie yes but Waterstones sells a lot of really nice stationary and crafts, plus games, soft toys and Lego etc.
Providing they have a Waterstones in easy reach it's better than the book only one because that means half the shop is off limits if there's no book that takes their fancy.

EcoCustard · 29/11/2023 21:56

Any of my 4 would love this (they’re aged 4-9). The younger one would spend his Waterstones voucher on a sticker book, ours sells some great ones, the others a book. Not a fan of bath bombs but more because one of the DC gets eczema flare ups. They sell games & craft kits too.

Blessedbethefruitz · 29/11/2023 22:03

Some kind of bookshop token (depending on what's local) and selection box would be great for most? Bath bombs would not be used here - I have eczema, the kids are afraid of anything except plain water (yes they're weird).

caringcarer · 29/11/2023 22:06

I'd give an Amazon voucher. They sell books and toys/games and they can choose.

soundsys · 29/11/2023 22:10

Mine would love this (age 4, 6 and 9).

Thank you all! That's a few ticked of the list anyway!! 😊
