Where to buy a real Christmas tree?

I want to buy a real, 6 foot Nordmann Fir this weekend.

Where would you recommend I buy it? I was thinking of either B&M, B&Q, or Asda. Would you recommend any of these stores? Have you had good experiences with their trees?

I want to spend below £80.

I bought one from a Christmas tree farm last year for £80, but it’s sadly closed this year, and I don’t know of any others nearby. Thank you.

Have you checked if any local scouts groups are doing a sale? We do ours this weekend - 6ft nordman is £40. From forestry commission. Nowhere near you though.

I've just bought a small one from Tesco for £25 but I think they've gone down to £15 now? It's in a pot with soil though. First year having a real one I'm totally unsure what will happen!

hi I’ve just bought a 6/7 ft Norman Fir for £20 from Homebase in Black Friday sale, usually £70!

There's a cycle shop (go figure!) in our town that sells them with the scouts and there's a day centre across the road from us that's selling them in aid of a local school.

Check or ask on your local Facebook page.

I got this 6ft Nordman fir in b&m for £30. It's £40 for a 7-8ft one, I thought those were great prices.

If you buy it now, do NOT put it up yet. Stick it outside in a bucket of water and don't bring it in until a few says before Christmas.

This isn't true - we have a real tree every year from end of November that lasts into new year. You just need to stand for it that holds water and keep it topped up.

We always get ours from B&Q every year, never had a problem. We only get a 5ft one (place it on a low table in front of the window so it looks bigger) and have never paid more than £40/£50 I don’t think depending on the type.

Choose a heavy tree when buying, it will have retained more water and will stay fresh longer.

Thank you all so much for your suggestions and advice.

At the weekend I plan to go to B&M and Homebase.

I’ve also found a Christmas tree seller who operates in a Church ground, so may check there too, and also my local garden centre. I’ll check these 2 last, as they’re the most expensive, and hopefully we won’t end up going to visit them!

I’ll also check out the Scouts’ groups, and local Facebook pages and see if I can find anything.

It’s so lovely to be part of a thread in which everyone is being positive and helpful, and with no bitchy or dismissive comments. I mean I understand it’s a chat about Christmas trees, but I’ve seen other innocent subject matters completely derailed by negativity, and this has made a refreshing change.

@Georgethebear

Wow, that’s a stunning tree! It’s similar to the one I paid £80 for last year. Will definitely check out B&M.
