Is anyone being much more intentional/thoughtful this year with DC gifts?

I haven't really started shopping yet, bought 2 small things for DD and nothing for DS yet. We have a really healthy budget for Christmas presents (not a stealth boat at all, there's been years when I've had hardly anything) and certainly aren't scrooges in any way, Christmas is our favourite time of year. DC have written their lists (although DD's changes a lot Grin) but I usually go crazy and buy everything, end up spending far too much (I think the past 2 years it was about £450 each- they're only 6&4), buy 'bargains' that they didn't pick but it was 'too good to pass up' etc. I am planning on being far more intentional with giving them gifts this year, not necessarily only getting them things they asked for but just really thinking about each purchase, no matter how big or small. Is anyone else doing the same?Smile

I certainly am. I’m not prepared to have one time use items or things to bulk out their piles that won’t be used. As a result I’ve spent much more than normal (don’t have a budget as such) but I know all items will be well recieved, recycled or be able to be reused (Vinted etc) and I feel much better for being a conscious consumer…..

although I’m still grappling with myself to not get the one thing on my 6 year olds list and buying the blinking Barbie dream house…

I always am to be fair, I refuse to buy for the sake of buying.

I ask mine for a list of 3 or 4 things totalling £100 max, and tell them not to expect everything on it. If I can get it all I do. I then will buy a fee extra bits they haven't asked for but I know they will like.

I'm trying to reduce spending this year. I usually spend £250 ish each, but have spent £120‐£170 each this year.

Me!

I have cut back massively on the amount of presents. Trying to really think if it will get played with plenty and where it will be stored.

I have cut back last couple of years but still seemed too much stuff.

Only issue is that some family members refuse to discuss what they’ll buy or for us to give suggestions. Seems such a waste for them to buy stuff the DC aren’t interested in and that just takes up space.
