...when he has an older brother and we already have every dinosaur, vehicle, jigsaw, book, superhero, costume going?

Any ideas please!?

Things like washimals or playdough that aren’t as nice second hand?
Craft kits?
Marble run?
Game like pop-up pirate?

angelopal · 27/11/2023 17:35

Kinetic sand, marble run, felt pens, bike, scooter, space hopper

BitchImTheSecretIngredient · 27/11/2023 17:54

Got my five year old a giant magnet and some binoculars for his stocking

EcoCustard · 27/11/2023 18:57

Ds4 has 3 older siblings but all close in age and he is getting:
Hot Wheels garage.
Box of Hot Wheels cars.
Dragon Squishmallow (he loves his sisters).
Playmobil Bin Lorry.
Along with a Where’s Spidey search & find book, Spider-Man stationery set, star projector, Gruffalo Dobble & a small Lego city set, sticker book & sweets, small stocking bits.
It’s been a rubbish year, so getting a little more than normal and it’s the first year I haven’t struggled to get him anything, I have lots of ideas for his birthday in May too.

flowerygloves · 27/11/2023 18:58

Some ideas:

Marble run
Sylvanian families
Flower press
Vegetables to plant and a watering can
Wellies
A large cuddly toy
An encyclopedia for children

BitchImTheSecretIngredient · 27/11/2023 20:31

Also got him some of the usborne look inside books. He seems quite interested in how things work at the moment

afternoontea86 · 27/11/2023 21:23

Mine are 6 and 3 and have just about every toy under the sun!
I would recommend Magnatiles (pricey but SO worth it), marble runs, scooter or bike, trampoline or swing set for the garden, PlayDoh sets, sticker books, aqua doodle set, kinetic sand and Playmobil and Lego sets.

Hugglethatmuggle · 27/11/2023 21:27

Marble run
Lego small sets
Glow tracks
Dobble
Dig kits
Magic water painting

Rainallnight · 27/11/2023 21:29

Does he have a Brio train set already? My DS LOVES his.

And magnetic tiles

frillseeking · 27/11/2023 21:36

Has anyone got any suggestions for a good marble run? I've bought a couple from Amazon previously but they're difficult to put together and not very good quality. Both of my children absolutely love them so I don't mind investing in a decent one

avenue1 · 27/11/2023 21:45

Yoto player and Lego train set

For a marble run, we use the connectix tiles with marble run accessories.

skkyelark · 27/11/2023 21:50

Another vote for magnetic tiles (and a decent-sized set definitely counts as a big present), also brio train set if you haven't got it, easy to find nice collections secondhand. A Yoto player is on our list this year.

Newuser75 · 27/11/2023 21:50

We have the same issue. Our 4 year old is getting a go kart and junior monopoly, a teddy and some clothes for his hobby and a couple of books.

Some more ideas
Yoto player
Microphone
Toy for outside of you have a garden such as swing ball, golf set, sandpit,
Football, rugby ball, basketball
Dressing up costume
Marble run. Mine plays with his brothers gravitrax but not sure on the age recommendation for that one.
Fidget toys of all kind
Science kits

PippyLongTits · 28/11/2023 11:29

Thank you all for your suggestions. He has a scooter and bike already, we were gifted a trampoline recently from a neighbour whose kids outgrew it, and his brother has a marble run and brio train set.

The magnetic tiles look like a good idea though, and we don't have them (hurray, something he will have that his brother won't have had first!). Wowcher have them on offer currently (£9.99) in case anyone else is also looking!

I've not heard of a Yoto player before - will look into it some more.

Thank you all, this all, this has been really helpful 😁

We have this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Galt-Toys-Super-Marble-Run/dp/B00DSNQ35W/
My boys love it!

here for the ideas...

my eldest turns 4 in early Jan and we are getting him for Christmas:

  • brio transport helicopter
  • kinetic sand construction set
  • a bilibo if I can get one 2nd hand
  • yoto cards for his yoto player
  • various books and stocking filler things

birthday:

  • code and go mouse set
  • brio bridges for his train collection
  • remote control brio train
  • a wooden tools toy from etsy that has real screws etc that he can practice with

Things that are popular we already have:

  • playmobil
  • quadro
  • play sofa
  • magnatiles / play mags
  • duplo / lego
Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 28/11/2023 22:37

Be careful about the magnetic tiles - some brands are better than others. Some are interchangeable brands and some aren't.
9.99 sounds way too cheap. Normally you are looking at £1 a tile i.e. £30 for a 30 piece box and £99 for a 99 piece box.

£9.99 seems either tiny qty or not good quality.

Rainallnight · 28/11/2023 22:55

I was going to say the same as @Hungrycaterpillarsmummy If your budget will stretch to it, the Magnatiles brand is fantastic. Expensive but the cost per play is tiny in my experience because they last forever and the kids get so much use out of them.

CornishGem1975 · 30/11/2023 11:29

Hmm I am struggling this year. My DS only loves cars and I just can't buy anymore! He probably would like a train set (he has a cheapy one) but wondering if at 4 years old we've missed the boat on Brio?

Footprintsinthesand · 30/11/2023 13:26

My 4 year old is getting (from everyone, not just us):

Playmobil adventure playground
Magnetic tiles (the 30 piece set was recently reduced in Argos)
Stomp rocket
Toy shop and things to go in it
Duplo
Kerplunk
Doughnutters
Playdoh
Walkie talkies

skkyelark · 30/11/2023 13:29

Oh, yes, DD1 had a stomp rocket for her 4th birthday, and I think it was her most-loved gift.

You haven't missed the boat! My 6 year old still plays with the brio train set. The small one in a figure of 8 might not be that engaging, but we got an absolutely huge bundle from Facebook marketplace a few years back and it can be sprawled out all over the place. It is all compatible with most other brands too, I think some bits are from IKEA, brio, John Lewis etc.

Hot wheels play set, monster trucks, kinetic sand

My 5.5 year old loves his Brio and I don’t see him stopping any time soon.
