Cheap but nice presents for DH.

My DH is a nightmare to buy for anyway but this year it’s going to be even harder.

Due to health reasons I had to resign from my job 5 months ago and so we went down to a one income house-hold. My DH was the highest earner but we are still down by £1700 each month.

He said “Let’s just not bother with getting each other presents this year” as we don’t really have any spare these money year days, but I still really want to get him something from a small pot I have.

I would probably be able to spend £100 on him and I would like to get 2-3 different presents for that but I don’t have any ideas.

All suggestions welcome.

PJs, aftershave or bodywash set.

Nearlyadoctor · 25/11/2023 15:08

Does he like peanut butter? I bought DH a fab set of 6 different ones from a company called Butterbike, you can mix and match different ones. It’s was £32 I think but they also do sets of 3.
Oddballs boxers or pj’s are quite fun and there’s usually a deal or free gift.

Don’t know where you’re located but I got a tour of my football clubs stadium last year. Tour its self was less than £20, I loved it!

It's only one gift and a little over your budget but National Trust membership for you both.

SootspriteSearcher · 26/11/2023 08:36

I would do a few experiences. Maybe wrap up a small gift and homemade voucher.

Cinema (meerkat movies 2 for 1) or a month subscription to nowtv/rent a movie if you cant go out. wrap his favourite sweets.

See if there's any cheap comedy nights/gigs local to you. We've enjoyed a few cover band nights, usually around £10 a ticket.

Are you into museums/art? I got dh a copy of a WW2 newspaper then took him to the Imperial War museum.

Material gifts its tricky to advice? What does he like? For my DH some cheap gifts for him would be gaming related, novelty tshirt/socks etc relating to his interests, novelty lighters, interesting WW2 memorabilia. He's a use it till its no good person so unnecessary upgrades wouldnt be appreciated, uses basic toiletries, doesn't wear aftershave and isn't into sports.

Look at Vistaprint (or similar). You could give him a calendar with pictures of the family or your favourite vacation places or a mug with a favourite photo on it.
I often buy DH a box of assorted cheeses and DS buys him a mixed box of beer.

DH has an Oodie dressing gown coming for £30 in the current sale. I bought mine last year and it's AMAZING.

A secondhand radio controlled Ducati motorbike he fancied from ebay for £70.

I'm also getting him a pile of different coffees as he lives on it (grounds rather than instant).

In the past, successes have included a Brewdog beer and cheese tasting (£18 each on Groupon) - he was skeptical but loved it when we went. St Austell brewery tour where we also then got pissed in the bar afterwards and had a great time.

And the best of all was a signed Slipknot gig running list which I got at a Welsh Auction from the Pick Collectors charity on Facebook for £10. I thought he was going to pop 😂😂

A book?

StiffyByngsDogBartholomew · 26/11/2023 19:29

I am getting a photo book printed of one of our holidays (in 2009 !) for DH, it's a labour of love as the digital photos are in a total muddle

housethatbuiltme · 26/11/2023 19:40

I wouldn't say £100 is cheap.

I have spent £65 on my DH and thats 6 gifts, xmas eve PJs and a stocking.

Really depends what he likes as to what you get practical things are normal popular with men like shoes/wallets/belts/socks/underwear or anything for their hobbies or tickets to a show/gig/sport event etc...

Put out and keep your money!

My husband is a bit of a foodie so I usually get him more unusual foods. I'll probably get him, and ds some stuff from our Chinese shop this year as well as the east European shop. You can get some really good flavoured vodka there. I totally recommend krupnik honey vodka

ChipsnGraveee · 17/11/2024 21:05

What about a hamper of his favourite alcohol & snacks - DH always loves this

AndThereSheGoes · 17/11/2024 22:07

Totally depends on your DH as to what a cheap meaningful gift will be unfortunately. They usually just want better versions of stuff they have already be it pants or tech.

Mine liked a message from his fave premeuership rugby player on Cameo
I've bought him signed shirts/ team sheets/ photis etc on eBay.

If he's not got hobbies you could get a bus blind ( the old linen roll type bus destination stops) from his meaningful place on eBay.

There are loads of good looking cable sorting cases and boxes if he likes that sort of stuff.Useful if he travels.

Skybluepinky · 17/11/2024 22:15

If u r short of money y r u wasting it when he says he doesn’t want anything. If u feel the need to buy ask wot he wants, no one wants wasted money on stuff they have to pretend to like.
