Bodybuilding 14 year old

What would you buy a 14 year old boy who goes to the gym daily/massively interested in bodybuilding?

So far he's got

protein powder
Blender
Hand wraps for mma
Gym membership extension
Arnold's new book
Gym bag

He has weights but they aren't great - however with him going to the gym I don't feel buying new ones would be beneficial? The gym is minutes from the house.

He has just asked for money as most 14 year olds do! But I don't like money at Xmas - it's about the thoughtful gifts. He can have money for his birthday.

Fitness bar - one that fits between a doorway. Ds loves to swing on his and do pull ups.

Grenade Carb killa bars

Thanks for the ideas - really helpful.

I've tried convincing DH to let him have a pull up bar but he's refusing as he thinks they damage the door frame!

A session with a pt to make sure he has good form to avoid any injuries?

BrokenWing · 21/11/2023 23:19

I was going to say the same as @mynumber . Ds really enjoyed his PT sessions (ended up costing a small fortune as we kept them going because he was getting so much out of them)

His trainer specialised in teens and taught him how to lift and corrected his posture, worked out what exercises he enjoyed and gave him a fitness and nutrition programme, spoke to him about what not to do while his bones/growth plates were still developing, and got him doing more than he thought he was capable of. Really upped his confidence at that funny teen stage.

He had a pull up bar at home that he used for a bit, but once he got close to 6ft he didnt find it comfortable and preferred and felt more motivated in the gym environment, but when he did use it during covid it caused no damage to the door frame at all.

We also have in the loft a 5ft olympic bar, and lots of rubber coated weights/plates we bought precovid and were great during covid (his PT came to our garden for sessions), but they have been in the loft ever since as he prefers the gym. I wouldnt spend a much on equipment for home unless you are convinced he will use it, a good PT who works with teens would be a much better investment.

Massage gun is helpful
Does he just bodybuild or does he powerlift?

Maybe also a training diary where he can write out his training plan/plan his sessions and record weights/reps
