How to present a Barbie Dream House

7 yo DD has been requesting a barbie dream house for months. I managed to find one in what seems like perfect condition on FB marketplace as they are expensive!!

So obviously it has been built and doesn't appear to be able to be taken apart (nervous to try too hard in case it breaks!)

We are spending Christmas 100 miles away and the barbie house is massive. Too big to transport in our car along with everything else. So DD will not have it until after Christmas.

Has anyone got any fun (easy, cheap) ideas of how to "give" it to her on Christmas Day? Apart from her stocking she won't have too much else as we only have a small family.

Thanks.

Tricky one. Are you sure it can't be taken apart?

NuffSaidSam · 17/11/2023 21:37

I'd set it up in situ, with some of her Barbie's in it and a big bow round it, take a photo and print and put in a frame and wrap that up for her to open on Christmas morning.

If the furniture is loose then maybe just give her that in the day? Take a couple of barbies so she can play and give her a photo of the house?

BeetleDeuce · 17/11/2023 21:37

I’d take a video of it and maybe wrap up a card saying “present is on a video…” and then show her?

fishfingersandtoes · 17/11/2023 21:38

Can you photograph it all set up next to your Christmas tree and give her a letter from Santa saying he has left it there for her to play with when she gets home & here is a Barbie to play with now?

ClarkeWGrisswald · 17/11/2023 21:42

I'd find a way of taking it with me tbh

Summerishere123 · 17/11/2023 21:44

I would also bring some of the furniture and buy new dolls to go with it - plus a picture of the house it will go in.

There is a decorate-your-own cardboard Dream House kit I think, maybe that along with some felt pens and a note from Santa saying her proper dreamhouse is at home, but she can decorate this one and play with it while she waits?

Ostryga · 18/11/2023 10:13

I would wrap up the bits that come with it, and some barbies and give her those along with a photo of it. Her other Xmas presents will tide her over until she gets home.

Be warned though, Dd begged for one all year and has played with it maybe 5 times 🤦🏻‍♀️ so glad you didn’t pay full price!!

Pack some furniture, a doll and a picture of the house. Perhaps give her a key of some sort first and when she asks about it, tell her it goes with the next gift and then present the furniture and picture.

This. Bit rubbish to get a present that's too large to transport when you knew you wouldn't be at home, and then show her a video or whatever

Singleandproud · 18/11/2023 10:26

A letter from Santa with a picture of the dream house Infront of your tree at home and a new doll and the furniture delivered where you are seems the best option. I would probably buy one of those large cardboard houses from Argos with some colouring pens so she has a substantial (in size) and related gift to keep her busy where you are spending the day

Catopia · 18/11/2023 10:27

What about a key, with a key tag tag saying "Barbie's dream house" ?

Like this sort of thing, but probably pink because Barbie...

Could you make a video of walking into the room and showing the house all set up, with voiceover 'I wonder what present Santa has left at home? etc.

BarbieBeauty · 18/11/2023 12:02

Thanks all. I like the key and the cardboard dream house idea!

I am a bit concerned she may not play with it but she has been asking forever so 🤞🏻I guess it can go back on marketplace for next Christmas.

Thanks again

Toys often come back into their own as a child gets older though, At 7 she could learn to crochet or sew clothes for the dolls. And I have no idea how expensive a dream house is but potentially she could also get offcuts of wall paper from B&Q and decorate it, use match/lolly sticks to make furniture
