We always get a new game for Christmas but I think we have most suitable ones now.

family of 4 and kids are 15 and 12.

m we already have dibble, Yahtzee, uno, bug bash and some I can’t think of.

was looking at exploding kittens but not sure if the kids are too old for it?

Six Second Scribble is our new favourite- very fast and everyone plays at the same time.

GrangeFill · 17/11/2023 06:15

DC are older and we love Scattergories - we make up our own. I might shell out for the real game though this year

SadCelticBunny · 17/11/2023 06:59

This game is great.

Chameleon is a great game! You can play it with 4 but the more players the harder it is

CoffeeChocolateWine · 17/11/2023 07:37

Outsmarted is good fun. It's very much like Trivial Pursuit but uses an app to select the categories you want to include and questions are targeted towards each players' age.

PosiePerkinPootleFlump · 17/11/2023 07:49

Not too old for exploding kittens.
We also like codenames.
And had lots of fun with Beat That either with just us and the kids or with another family too

bettynutkins · 17/11/2023 08:22

Exploding kittens, I've played many times as a group of adults. Didn't know it was a kids game?!

SallyWD · 17/11/2023 08:52

Labyrinth is great

IThinkIMadeItWorse · 17/11/2023 10:23

I second some of the recommendations above (Codenames, Quacks of Quedlinburg, Mysterium, Love letter, Fluxx, Karuba etc) but I would add

So Clover (if you like cooperative word games)
The Crew (cooperative trick taking)
Lost Ruins of Arnak (archaeology themed euro game)
Dixit (need at least three people, better with more, beautiful art)
Lanterns (set collection, up to four players)
Takenoko (cute panda gardening theme, competitive but not nasty)
King of Tokyo (dice rolling monster fighting game, really fun!)

BlazingWorld · 17/11/2023 10:27

Last year the Blankety Blank game went down well in our family with all ages.

IcedupTulip · 17/11/2023 13:57

Oh wow. Thanks guys. Lots for me to look into!

We like Dixit, Catan, Mysterium and Ticket to Ride.

yay - proper games!

Current favourite is Codenames

Codenames Game (johnlewis.com)

Hardy perennial is Articulate

Newer tradition (since 2020) is Pandemic

I love pandemic, and our family had a really good time last Christmas playing 'Pandemic Legacy'. It was genuinely exciting, and there was a sort of story that developed through the rounds... would recommend!

Igmum · 17/11/2023 14:48

Taco cat goat cheese pizza - very simple card game, ridiculous and hysterically funny

Skulls

Sounds Fishy (teenage DD's current favourite)

SprogTakesAQuarry · 17/11/2023 22:07

My dc are 14 and 15 and our favourite gave atm is The Mind. I’m always surprised more people haven’t heard of it.

It’s a collaborative game that’s absurdly simple to learn but then very, very good fun to play. I really recommend it.

We played that at in-laws last Xmas and loved it. Keep meaning to buy.

BelfastSmile · 17/11/2023 22:21

Ticket to Ride is a good staple in our house - easy to understand, and good fun, doesn't go on too long. Rummikub was one that we played as a family when I was a teenager, and loved it.

We also like Castle Panic, which is co-operative, so you all play together to beat the game.

Our top one, though, is Hogwarts Battle, which is another co-op game.

You can usually find play-throughs of games online, which is a good way to see whether you like the gameplay.

BelfastSmile · 17/11/2023 22:22

Whoknowswhatanymore · 17/11/2023 04:59

Ticket to Ride is our favourite game of the moment and we have similar aged children. We’re looking at getting the Europe and Rails and Sails version for Christmas this year. Bought pandemic last year but still new in box as we couldn’t get our heads round it!

Pandemic is great, and not that complicated once you get the hang of it. I found the app version and played that a bit to get to grips with the rules (the app version walks you through it, which makes it much clearer).

jackles · 17/11/2023 22:51

Catan is a very good game. We play lots of board games; Dominion is great, Clank, Betrayal at the House on the Hill, Dixit...

oobedobe · 17/11/2023 23:25

Similar age kids, our most played games are:
Splendor (we have the marvel version)
ticket to ride
Rummikub
Sequence
Codenames

for this Christmas I have got us Catan

FlickyCrumble · 18/11/2023 06:50

We haven’t mastered exploding kittens yet.
personal favourites are labyrinth, cluedo, monopoly.
house favourites are carcasone, ticket to ride.

gettingolderbutcooler · 18/11/2023 06:57

Monopoly monopolised 2.5 hours of our time on holiday with our teens.
Also, taught them poker and gin rummy!

Baboutheocelot · 18/11/2023 06:59

Code names
Decrypto
The mind-as a previous poster said, really simple to play but so addictive.

Holidayqueen1 · 18/11/2023 12:35

We also love Horror at House on the Bill, Trek across the world is our favourite though! Also monopoly deal, exploding kittens, unstable unicorns and sushi go are perennial favourites here. Love the sound of who knows where, maybe our family game this year, thank you!
