I have a whole 10 days off this year and I cannot wait!

DH has put in his request for the time off in between Christmas and new year too so hopefully we can spend some real quality time together.

We will spend Christmas Eve, day and Boxing Day with my family (parents, brother and brother in law), then after that just the two of us and our dog.

I’m thinking at least one duvet day watching Christmas movies and eating Christmas chocolates etc, maybe a drive out somewhere local for a nice dog walk.

Would love to hear how much time you have off and what your plans are!

PS- I realise a LOT of people can’t have time off, public services, retail etc and I thank you for that and I hope this post doesn’t upset or offend you.

That sounds lovely, I'm taking 2 weeks as I have a midweek day off so seemed pointless working 1 day after/before it. Have a 2 year old so won't be that relaxing though! 3 days they will still be in nursery so that'll be Xmas prepping - we are hosting Xmas and boxing day this year.¹

For DD Will aim.for the children's Xmas eve church service where they all dress up for nativity and there's a real donkey. And last year a group she does had a kids NYE party so that would be nice.

Otherwise got a couple of other meet ups planned, a trip to the theatre with my nephew for his Xmas present. Probably a few stately home type days out with memberships we have. ¹

Hopefully no illness this year!!

TheChosenTwo · 14/11/2023 07:12

I’ve booked 3 days off, the Wednesday Thursday and Friday before Christmas, then my office closes for Christmas week and I’m due back on the first Tuesday of the new year but I’m taking that off too and going back on the Wednesday.
will be busy the week before Christmas prepping for family stuff and hosting a pre Christmas party and then we go on holiday on the 27th.
looking forward to it all, I love Christmas!

PermanentTemporary · 14/11/2023 07:16

I've got the 25th and the 27th off and in an odd way it's helping - I'm basically treating each day from 23rd-27th as separate celebrations, and seeing different people on each one. We're only really hosting on the 24th so that's quite chilled too.

Whiterose23 · 14/11/2023 07:22

I have from the 15th- 28th December off and I can’t wait. My children also break up on the 15th.
We have so many lovely plans and after the year we’ve had I can’t wait to spend quality time with my family.

Soccermumamir · 14/11/2023 07:25

I'm term time, so will finish on Wednesday 20th December and not go back till after NY. OH is term time too.

Ceebeegee · 14/11/2023 07:26

Finish 6pm pn 22nd Dec and back at 8am on 27th Dec, so 4 days.

Cojer · 14/11/2023 07:27

I'm very lucky to have from 20th Dec to 8th Jan off.
We go away to the Yorkshire Dales for four nights after Christmas, we'll be at my mam's for Christmas Day and the rest will be take it as we please.

Wendyspotatopeeler · 14/11/2023 07:35

We're all off for a couple of weeks. We're going to a cottage in the Cotswolds for a few nights in between Xmas and NY.

Tinkeytonkoldfruit · 14/11/2023 07:40

I'm off from the 18th back on 28th then have a few days after NY too as it's DDs birthday on the 4th Jan. Have lovely plans in the week running up to Christmas, including a spa day with DH as DD doesn't break up till 20th. My brother will be up from 20th and the DSC will start gravitating back from uni, really looking forward to seeing them all.

AliasGrape · 14/11/2023 07:40

21st - 3rd Jan - some is Christmas shutdown anyway and I’ve used up last of my annual leave.

22nd I’m taking DD to a playgroup Christmas party. 23rd we’ve got an arty activity booked and then my aunt arrives to stay with us. Christmas Eve we always go for a walk round nearby lovely park/ historic house then we will go to the Christingle service and then there’s usually a little get together with a few neighbours but we will only really show our faces briefly as will be starting all the Father Christmas/ bedtime stuff with DD.

Am hosting aunt and in laws Christmas Day. There will be a buffet at in-laws on one of the in between days, and my side will have a get together probably at my sister’s too. One of my nephews has his birthday in between Christmas and new year so we usually go for a meal at a pub with a play area then too.

Last year the plans were broadly similar but we definitely crammed too much in driving here there and everywhere to visit further flung relatives and it all got a bit much and too stressful in hindsight so this year we will take it a bit easier.

We’re at the panto New Year’s Eve.

Dazedandconfused10 · 14/11/2023 07:50

Only have Christmas and boxing day off. Work is so quiet between Christmas and New year seems a waste to book it as holiday. Plus allows my team to travel and spend time with their families.

FourChimneys · 14/11/2023 08:19

I am self employed and will not book clients in for about 2 weeks. Plenty of time to do admin, do my tax return and redecorate my working spaces as well as a token nod to Christmas. Having a 6 day holiday too which we are looking forward to.

Very grateful to all those working over the Christmas period, including two members of my own family, in very different roles.

gotomomo · 14/11/2023 08:23

I'm off 11 days, going away

Echobelly · 14/11/2023 08:29

22nd Dec- 3rd Jan off.

We don't celebrate Christmas - it would have been nice to get away but we had fairly pricey holidays this year and next year is going to be an expensive one, so going to try to use the time to see friends in different parts of the country. I mean, no one really far away, but people within an hour or two of us in London. So I think we're going up to the midlands for pub lunch with a friend between Xmas and new year, after new year might go down to Brighton and hoping friends in Surrey might be doing NYE. Kids have some short residential Jewish youth group camps, but only 2 or 3 nights and not at the same time.

BitofaStramash · 14/11/2023 08:32

Nearly 3 weeks off.

Christmas at my house for 10 and Hogmanay for 16. New Year's Day at my parents.

Plus Wicked in Edinburgh, local pantomime, Irn Bru Carnival in Glasgow, Santa and Christmas experience at New Lanark.

SirChenjins · 14/11/2023 08:35

10 days off and I intend to do very little. That's my intention - DD has just bought her first place and it needs some work so I suspect I'll be decorating.

kirinm · 14/11/2023 08:36

5 days and the. 4 as I've just started a new job and others have already got the two days and someone has to be available. It's the first time in years so I guess it's fair enough plus the office doesn't open at all on 27th.

kirinm · 14/11/2023 08:37

We've got an air BnB close to family and where I grew up - in the countryside so it'll be full of childhood nostalgia.

Natsku · 14/11/2023 08:39

I'm in school so will be off from the 22nd to the 8th of Jan which does not give much time pre-Christmas for preparations but lots of time post-Christmas for lazing (and studying)

Probably will do as we usually do, and visit FIL on Christmas Eve for lunch, rest of Christmas at home, and Boxing Day at MIL's. Game night and fireworks for New Year's Eve. Hopefully the snow will be nice at Christmas time so can play in the snow with the children inbetween lazing, overeating, and studying.

fourelementary · 14/11/2023 08:42

I’m working Xmas day off Boxing Day then back to work the weds-Friday that week. Sadly it’s also my weekend of work and I’m working New Year too… but that means I get the rest of the following week off. I am thinking naughtily of sneaking the kids a few extra days off and going away from the 3rd to the 6th/7th as a result. Just to have some post-Xmas time.

Christmas plans in Dec include zoo illumination type thing, soft play with a Xmas theme, a panto visit and hopefully lots of snuggly Xmas movie nights. I’m also considering doing a thanksgiving type meal together with extended family… as I won’t see them Xmas day.

We did this a few years ago and it’s one of the best Christmases we’ve ever had. Enjoy

BrieAndChilli · 14/11/2023 09:31

I'm off 23rd (but might try and take the 22nd off as its DS1s birthday) and go back to work on the 2nd Jan.

23rd will be the big food shop, sorting out last minute bits plus guest beds etc. My sister is arriving that day with BIL, niece and nephew.
24th we have booked ice skating then will do christmassy bits at home - gingerbread house etc. Niece still believes so teenagers will also have to 'believe'!
25th - normal xmas day stuff
26th - Sister etc leave, we will just chill at home

Between Xmas and new year we will meet up with DH family for a meal somewhere halfway between us all.
DH will want to go for a hike at some point, other than that probably film days and chilling.

CrazyBaubles · 14/11/2023 09:31

I've got 13 days off. DH is a teacher so he'll be off too and we have no dc.

Not sure if we have any plans for before Christmas except maybe going somewhere nice for a meal.

Christmas Eve will be spent at home prepping dinner, watching Christmas films, drinking and eating.

Christmas Day and Boxing Day will be a mix of seeing his family and mine, at our house and going to visit.
We definitely want to end our Christmas Day in our own little traditional way - with a cheese board, whiskey and Elf.

After that, we don't have any proper plans yet but I think we're possibly going to book a night or 2 away.
Essentially the plan is to have lots of chilled out time together as it's been a hard year for us both.

maddiemookins16mum · 14/11/2023 13:20

I finish at 1pm on the 22nd and off until 2 Jan. Can’t wait.

reluctantbrit · 14/11/2023 13:52

I stop on the 20th and have to work 27/28th. No chance of taking time off.

Before Christmas I try to not do any stress anymore, one last shop with fresh produce and that's it. I hope to get some more baking done, depending how much as been eaten during Advent.
Movies, walks if the weather cooperates and just relaxing.

If the weather is nice I hope to get out for a day on the 29. We have plans with friends on the 30th for ice skating but don't know where yet.
