Anyone Else Not Make Christmas Dinner

Does anyone else not bother with Christmas dinner?

I love Christmas and hate cooking, so the last thing I want to be doing is prepping food in the days leading up, as well as spending time in the kitchen on Christmas Day itself.

I also think it's a massive waste of money on top of the other Christmas expenses. I honestly don't know how people afford it.

Does anyone else not bother with Christmas dinner?

I love Christmas dinner but I'm not keen on making it, so my DH has done it for the last 20 years.

We never used to at all but now my eldest is 5 and already fussy about food I want to make more of a thing out of it, and it’s nice to follow food traditions. I’m not English but I do think the tradition of English Christmas dinner is nice.

We will have turkey, but keeping everything as simple as possible.

so what will you be eating on Christmas Day, OP?

I feel like it's quite a cost effective meal tbh, if you make some tweaks.

We usually eat lots of chocs, but other than that, just our normal food. DS and I are not big eaters at all, so just sarnies for lunch and then a simple dinner. DH likes a roast, so he he usually goes for a Christmas dinner with his mum in December.

Im going to make my special secret recipe cottage pie on Christmas eve then reheat it for Christmas Day.

Usually do a full four course Christmas dinner but I really can't be bothered this year. I'm going down the simple route this year 🙂

We don't cook it here. Haven't for over twenty years. We go out to a local hotel restaurant which is ten minutes walk from our house. There are five of us.

Very relaxing, and we can enjoy a few drinks because nobody has to drive.

I would love to swerve the roast on Xmas day and just do easy shove in the oven party food. Every year I pitch it and get persuaded, but I'll try again this year. It's just the 4 of us this time and the DC aren't even that fussed about various roast elements (but apparently still insist on the tradition) so I'd rather save it til we have family over and more appreciative eaters! Wish me luck...

I don't like to cook but I (snd my kids) LOVE Christmas dinner! It's the one time I will go all out. I was once abroad and they didn't do it and I was soooooo disappointed.
But hey, you can get it pretty much all of it pre prepped and just stick it in the oven.

For the last two years we've had Christmas dinner but on Christmas Eve. Then on Christmas Day itself we have leftovers sandwiches, crisps, party food etc. I absolutely love it. It's so relaxing.

If it was up to me I wouldn't even bother with the dinner on Christmas Eve but the kids like it so I still make the effort albeit a pared back version.

Thanks, everyone.

Of the three of us, DH is the only one who really likes food (DS and I would live on toast if we could). He does love a Christmas dinner but is happy enough to go out for one in the weeks leading up to Christmas.

I like almost all food, including roast dinners, but I stopped cooking Christmas dinners about 15 years ago.

My husband is from Slovakia and

If there's only the 3 of bus we'll do something different. We've done paella, peking duck and other stuff. DH normally does Christmas dinner between Christmas and New Year.

I'm not a fan of roast dinners and DH is so this suits us fine
