New tree or not?

Help me make a decision here if you can.

We've had the same reusable Christmas tree for the past 13 years and while it still works as a reusable tree, I'm starting to tire of it.

I've seen two artificial lovely trees online and it's proving difficult for me not to buy one and chuck the old one out.

My first question is if you use an artificial tree, how long do you use yours?

Second question - if you were to pick one of these two trees, which one would you select:

Option 1

Option 2

Both of these trees look a lot fuller and don't seem to have layers of gaps where my current artificial tree does.

I think 13 years is a substantial enough period of time to consider something else if you want to. I'd go with option 1, I don't see much difference to warrant the higher price of option 2. Remember they're fluffed up especially for the photos so it may look slightly gappy at home - but you don't see that once you've decorated it.

If you plan to keep the next one for 10 years + then I don't see why you shouldn't buy a new one if that's what you fancy.

You need to have an artificial tree for about 10 years to cover the carbon cost you are over this now so why not upgrade. If you keep the next one for just as long it is more beneficial to the environment than chopping one down every year

We have had ours for 13 years and i bought a new one this year. Planning on sticking old one on facebook marketplace for cheap so hopefully someone else can make use.
Of the two options i prefer 1, but depends if you want it really bushy or not.

I had my last tree 12 years, I then replaced it with a Balsam Hill Pre Lit tree in 2021 so this will be its third Xmas. It wasn't cheap but I absolutely love it and will keep it until it dies which hopefully won't be for a very long time.

My pick from your 2 option would be option 2.

My artificial tree is at least 20 years old and still going strong. I was tempted to buy a new, smaller one as DC grown up now but having seen the price of the good ones I think I'll carry on with the existing tree.
My preference would be for option 1 of your two choices.

We had a real tree for years until I had a meltdown one year about the hoovering. So we bought an artifical one with fake snow and that was just as bad. It was so bad last year that I put a message on our family chat did anyone want it or it was going in the bin! Luckily DD took it, so I've just invested in a Balsam Hill one. And plan this to last decades. It's only used for less than a month a year as we've got DC birthdays in early December and I never put the tree up until after. And I'm sick of looking at it by Boxing Day....

Option 1 for me.

I am in the same boat. Been looking today as mine is very old, bare and looks rubbish nowadays. Treat yourself!

HaroldMeaker · 11/11/2023 15:33

Ours is 18 years and we love it.

Option 1 would be my preference.

Olika · 11/11/2023 15:41

Like option 1, don't like 2 at all.

SageRosemary · 11/11/2023 15:49

Our first tree lasted 21 years, it got manhandled badly and was slightly wonky towards the end.

I prefer option 1, however both trees are very wide around the base (59" and 60") so you will need quite a large room to accommodate them comfortably.

Britneyfan · 11/11/2023 15:49

I think once you’ve had an artificial one for over ten years it’s ok to replace if necessary. I like option 1 much better.

mondaytosunday · 11/11/2023 15:54

I recall reading somewhere that you need to use your artificial tree ten years for it to be sustainable (it's still plastic so not sure how they work that out). So you've done that!
Option one is the nicer tree by a country mile!!!

YuliaJollyberry · 11/11/2023 18:13

We got a new one when ours was around 15 years old and a bit lopsided, ended up keeping it to use in a different room.

If I was picking from your options I’d choose option 1.
