Dds will be 8 and 4.5 at Christmas. I’m keen to find some games that we can all enjoy playing together.
Any suggestions?

Tsuro is great - I think a 4yo could manage it, and it can get quite competitive!

On a similar vein, bandido is a cooperative card game that everyone could play.

My kids are 5 and 9 and have enjoyed this year:

Junior Monopoly
Dobble
Snakes and ladders
Headbandz
Buckaroo
Jenga
Marble run
Hungry Hippos
Uno

My grandson loved this one - might be a bit boring for your eldest though. Disney do 'home sprint' board games in different themes which is a similar vibe.

Dominoes is currently a fave in our house when the little ones are here - id recommend the cream sets though, the dots are more clear for younger players.

Oh and screwball scramble/silly sausage/bop it

I have a nearly 4 and nearly 8.

Mostly the 3 year old doesn't play games. She likes hoot owl hoot though the 7 year old gets bored of it fairly fast.

I did carcasonne as a kind of shared freeform jigsaw with her recently and that worked quite well so I think we will try the actual game soon.

Cobra Paw

My 8yo only started sitting through the full game of labrynth in the last year or two, he always started getting bored in the middle (he loves it now!) Good old snakes and ladders has always done the job here!! Dobble, pop up pirate and Noicant said connect four- that is the go to game in this house, as well as jenga and the Humpty Dumpty wall game (though it can get loud and crazy!)

Agree with others Junior Monopoly is brilliant. My kids definitely played it at 4. Helps with maths and is easy to follow.

Frenchfancy · 10/11/2023 05:58

Quirkle would be my first thought.

Great for younger kids as it's matching shapes and colours, but can get strategic as they get older.

Hercisback · 10/11/2023 06:03

Carcassonne will be great, our 3yo plays with a bit of support. Don't play the farmer rules and they'll love it.

swimona · 10/11/2023 06:05

Our favourites for similar ages are bugs in the kitchen and children's monopoly.

Amara123 · 10/11/2023 16:47

I think Dixit is lovely and not too long.
Pop up pirate is great too.

AnotherSofaDay · 10/11/2023 18:16

Quirkle is a good shout - we actually have a set that we got a while ago but haven’t really played so I’ll dig that out.

I hate snakes and ladders- we always seem to spend too much time landing on snakes.

I’m keen to give carcasonne a go. When people say don’t play the farmer rules, is everyone playing with the junior version, or adapting the main game?

I love Labyrinth, I used to play it in the 90s. Bought an old box off Ebay. They sell it new in stores too. It's so fun I still love it in my 30s! It might be a bit too old for your younger one but I bet your eldest will love it and the younger one could play in a couple years.

Ravensburger Labyrinth Game

Definitely Labyrinth, we still play it with a 19 and 17 year old.

Hercisback · 10/11/2023 18:41

We adapt the main game and play the basic version of carcassonne.

bluesky45 · 10/11/2023 19:11

Uno is one of my favourites. My 4 and 6 year old also like exploding kittens. We played a few times in pairs with each dc having a parent with them and now the 4 year old can play on his own and has brilliant strategy, he can't read the cards but remembers what each card does from the colour.

Croissantsandpistachio · 10/11/2023 19:50

I Saw It First is great for the whole family, no reading needed and hardly any rules.

Broodywuz · 10/11/2023 22:39

Orchard games are great and actually slightly educational too, shopping list has been a huge hit in our house

HallieRaspberry · 10/11/2023 23:05

Looping Louis is a great laugh
