Those of you making home made hampers?

Proboscisattheread87 · 08/11/2023 13:03

Where please do you find the actual hampers without spending a fortune?

Gift baskets with handles would also work, also rectangular cardboard boxes with handles.

I need about ten of them.

Also where do you find the florist’s transparent vinyl wrap without spending £30 a roll?

Any tips gratefully received!

I just googled wholesale suppliers and found a load of stockists, here's one:

Check out Amazon for florist wrap, I bought mine from hobby craft.

I'll be getting mine from HobbyCraft I think :) I'm making my mum a pre-mixed spice basket with recipe cards so she can make the meals of mine that she loves when I'm not there.

Got mine from wilco last year

If I do home-made hampers, I put the stuff into a canvas shopping bag and tie the top with something pretty.
Makes the packaging become part of the present.

I do the same- Seasalt do lovely Christmas Jute bags that are comparatively cheap, reusable and also mean you don’t need to use cellophane etc (they’re also 3 for 2 so great if you’re buying several). https://www.seasaltcornwall.com/big-printed-jute-shopper-bag

I just wrap up some of the tall items that might stick out (e.g. wine bottles) and pad it out with tissue so you can’t see what’s inside and things don’t get damaged.
Unless you think they’ll actually use the hamper it’s a good alternative and better for the environment (as well as giving you some extra money towards whatever is in the ‘hamper’)

I either use jute bags, or the large Christmas printed M&S bags or the sturdy banana boxes from Aldi which I wrap in Christmas paper.

Large cellophane roll via Amazon

Thank you very much indeed for that link Hotchocolatemousse!

And I did look on Amazon myself but obviously called florist wrap the wrong thing as I didn’t get good results. Very helpful! Thank you!

The Works sell 3 rolls of cellophane for £2, 3m per roll. They also sell the baskets, not sure of the price on those.

This is a great idea and very practical

I buy ready made hamper sets in tkmaxx or buy their actual wicker storage baskets and then cellophane on ebay.

EverythingLouderThanEverythingElse · 08/11/2023 15:22

Tesco and Iceland have the hamper sets for about £5.
I bought a huge roll of cellophane from a wholesale packaging company, I think it was £10.
If you have a nearby market ask the fruit & veg sellers for empty wooden crates, leave them plain or paint them.

I use the Seasalt jute bags every year but for hampers with cellophane I’ve used Curver plastic baskets (so part of the gift) or a hardbacked book as the ‘base’ and wrapped around that doing away with the hamper parts completely. At DDs school they wrap a cardboard box with Christmas paper as the hamper.

Mrsjayy · 08/11/2023 16:46

this. I only did one for my parents but I thought this was reasonable.

Mrsjayy · 08/11/2023 16:48

I'm going to do one this year it was such a success saves buying something they won't use/wear.

BeaLola · 08/11/2023 20:31

I forgot an obvious one I have done - a crate (from pub) that I did 12 bottles of whisky in for my Dad - one for each month - bottles were wrapped in brown paper , festive ribbon and a tag with month on and a clue to the whisky - something daft like - March-Not A Womble ( Tobermory )

Tina221 · 08/11/2023 21:29

I have bought cellophane from Lidl previously

Mrsjayy · 08/11/2023 21:41

the crate sounds a great idea might do something like that for my son In laws will do beers they like those poncy craft beers.

User478 · 08/11/2023 21:48

They have them in Aldi from tomorrow:

I like the idea of incorporating a hardback book, thank you! Probably a bit expensive for these particular (office) hampers but nice for a one off special present!
