Struggling to think of something for my husband

We tend to give each other a token at Christmas and set a limit of £30. Normally I like the challenge of finding something he’ll really like without going over the limit but this year I’m really struggling. He likes reading (thrillers, history, politics), gardening (but has everything), walking (ditto), whisky, wine, coffee (but we have these anyway), birds (garden and birds of prey), games.

Any ideas? The problem is he doesn’t really need anything, I suppose. Something new and a bit gadgety/unusual would be great.

A milk frother (eg https://www.johnlewis.com/dualit-milk-frother-black/p231706525 ) to make cappuccinos etc

Coffee grinder for beans

This gadget for making quick coffee but very easy clean-up - perfect for offices. Really good.

Owl pellets - real but sterilised so you can dissect to find bones. From owl sanctuaries.

Bird song CD

Garden footwear/short wellies or socks liners

Also, go onto Amazon and put in a book he already has and see what other people have gone on to buy.

I have the same problem! In the past I’ve bought us theatre tickets ( so nice for me as well!), perfume, new leather wallet etcand I’ve completely run out of ideas. We are mid and late 60’s so don’t really “need” anything.
Im considering the ancestry dna kit this year just for fun as he has mixed heritage.

Ah ha! I think this might be the one- thank you so much! Just the right balance of fitting his interests while being a bit of a novelty.

Thanks also to everyone for the ideas.

Mine is awkward too!!

I have gone for some ground coffee from one of the uk places we go on holiday. I know he will drink it and it's a bit different to his normal Aldi ones. Another gift that he really liked was from my parents, they got him some fancy salt and herb tubs, these were a brand from Cornwall but I've seen some in tk maxx from Hairy bikers.

AutumnBride · 08/11/2023 13:55

Mine is difficult to buy for, I've gone for mostly wearable and useable stuff this year, not very exciting but better than spending money on something he won't appreciate.

notforonesecond · 08/11/2023 14:22

So far I’ve bought a travel cutlery set for him to take to work and a new iPhone charger.

Which seems so boring!

No idea what else to get.

LadyNina00 · 08/11/2023 15:55

Great suggestion with the owl Pellets! I'm going to pinch that for my 12 year old son. 😁

I gifted my DH a pen for his IPad last year and he’s used it nearly everyday at work and was a huge success, it was only about £25 off Amazon!

BeaLola · 08/11/2023 20:36

Not unusual but my DH loved the smaller version Swiss Army knife that I got him that he has with his keys - engraver too- they had all sorts on the official website

BeaLola · 08/11/2023 20:38

Could you book a vineyard tour if you have any within near distance - nice to look forward to ?

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 08/11/2023 22:23

Mine is hard to buy for too, although we don’t have a budget. So far I have a Fossil wallet (he did hint heavily that his wallet was scruffy and wrecked), a hoodie from H&M (he travels a lot for work so these are great for flights) and a jigsaw from Oliver Bonas which might get him off his phone. I always get him socks and something sweet like fudge, and will probably get a couple of t-shirts too.

Whisky decanter? Always taste better when allowed to breathe like wine.

Pinkkisugarmouse · 09/11/2023 17:23

Perhaps it’s worth asking him for ideas. It’s better than spending money on things you don’t know he really wants.
One year I got my tricky to buy for DH a set of binoculars. If he likes walking or travelling, birdwatching or spying on the neighbours it might be well received.
Or a professional camera? Start with something for beginners but my understanding is you can upgrade various parts separately.

Pinkkisugarmouse · 09/11/2023 17:25

Apologies I have just seen your budget is £30. I suggest asking for a list

OMGitsnotgood · 10/11/2023 14:04

I know you said he has everything he needs for walking but we always appreciate new walking socks. It's hard to justify buying new when you already have them but always great to have new soft ones. Don't have to be expensive, might be an option if you need an extra. I also bought DH a new micro fleece for walking which he loved
