Second hand Christmas presents

Just after some advice really. Prepared to be told I'm being silly/over thinking it but please be kind but honest because I've had an awful week (another story)

I've bought some Xmas presents on vinted for my young children.

One is older who would notice if he received tatty gifts, although I'd still get some second hand if good condition (I just can't afford brand new everything!!)
I'm not sure if he'd notice if his younger siblings had new or not - he believes in santa still. The things I ordered for the younger ones have arrived but they are much tattier than expected but they are lovely items which may have been expensive if bought new. I can try and clean them up. But its hard to clean a book! I guess my question is, do you think it's ok to give a toddler and a nursery age child slightly tatty presents from santa? Shall I just pop them in, my oldest probably will be too preoccupied with his own bits to notice the younger ones.

Do it. If he says anything they must have got bumped around in bad weather on Santa's sleigh. Don't spend more money on top to "fix"

In our house Santa’s elves like to collect good toys that children don’t play with anymore, then wrap them up and pass them on to other children. Santa’s elves like to be green and not waste anything.

I use this to get rid of outgrown stuff every November (we leave things out for Santa’s elves to collect) and always give secondhand gifts.

My kids know it’s all a story but go along with it quite happily.

I think it’s perfectly fine, don’t worry & great idea about saying Father Christmas bumped them in his sleigh!

This is genius, what a great idea.

Also Santa and the elves love to read books and they all loved this book, they read it to make sure your dc would like it. They might even leave a note in the book saying so.

Thank you those are great ideas :)

I have bought my children, 9 and 15, most of their presents from vinted this year. Some brand new and some in very good condition. I have saved an awful lot of money doing this! I even just bought my 9 year old some Jordans trainers in very good condition in box for £25 because I absolutely refuse to pay £90 for a pair of trainers that will last him a few months at best!

Anyway, as long as they aren't ripped or ruined then I think recycling presents is a brilliant idea and am so glad I had this option this year as I wouldn't have been able to get half the stuff I have bought otherwise.

I absolutely agree with recycled presents. Ihad very little money when mine were young and they never noticed ( I’ve asked them as adults) if something wasn’t new. My third was born 7 years after the other two so for about the first 4 years of his life had presents from the attic!
Maybe a bit more difficult when they get older, but I’d say up to about 8/9 they won’t notice ( just going by ages of my grandchildren and thinking that none of them under 8 would realise if something wasn’t pristine)
I like the “ damaged in the sleigh” idea!
By the way, although I can remember the stresses and financial worries about getting all the presents, I do actually miss all of that now!
