Pregnant at Christmas

Hi,

I am a self-confessed lurker of the Christmas board!

I am pregnant and will be about 7 months by Christmas Day. Plans for Christmas so far are a bit limited, but looks like we will be going to my partner’s family for a few days (along with my six year old and dog). I love Christmas but have always relied a lot on wine/gin to get through the more stressful moments!

I suppose my question is - how do I really embrace the season this year with a bump? Any good tips for not letting the stress get to me (without relying on alcohol!).

Thank you!

Just don't drink.
Make sure there's cheese you can eat.
Chocolate?

Maybe a few strategically placed naps, not necessarily to sleep, just for time out?

Mumeries · 05/11/2023 15:21

What about alcohol free
and or don’t go in the first place

ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS · 05/11/2023 15:22

You’re tired, take a nap, make sure you have a good book to read or ear buds to secretly watch a movie on your phone or tablet without anyone else hearing. Let your DP and in-laws take care of your 6yo while you use this rare opportunity to have a rest.

Yeah just go for a nap whenever it gets awkward. Take your own snacks and 1 bottle of own brand Gaviscon per day.

Dog walks...
I was 39 weeks on Christmas Day suffering badly with hyperemesis (sp?) snowed in for days with my inlaws in '95. I prayed for labour to begin. It didn't until New Year. It wasn't a scene I rushed to repeat.

We will be staying at home I’ll be 30 weeks at Christmas. I am doing all my wrapping this month whilst toddler is in school. Decorating is going to be done in stages slowly. 23rd and 24th anything I can pre prep for Christmas dinner will be done. 24th I will take the children to look at the town lights and get a takeaway on the way home, everyone bathed and in new pjs. Xmas morning we will get up I’ll make hot drinks whilst children do stockings in there bed put meat on, and curl up in bed with my partner till we all get up do presents and turn the cooker on. Serve eat and then chill with a movie whilst the children all play with there new things… as stress free and as pre planned and preped as possible is the way forward x

These are brilliant tips - thank you all for your kindness! Next I need to think about what to wear!

This will definitely be the last baby so really want to embrace the festive pregnancy magic but at the moment I’m just thinking about avoiding stress!

I’ve had a late January and an early February baby , and I loved being pregnant at Christmas, as others have said , take it easy and make sure you have plenty of indigestion remedies in .

Hibernatalie · 05/11/2023 20:36

Make sure you get a nice photo of you and your bump in front of the tree!

DrMarshaFieldstone · 05/11/2023 20:38

Make sure that you are au fait with the NHS dietary guidance so that you are prepared if anyone tries to stop you having prawn cocktail or Stilton (bitter experience!).

Aww these are fab ideas! Especially love the photo in front of the tree one. Thanks everybody for being lovely. X
