What toys are you getting your 10yo boys?

Mountainhowl · 05/11/2023 13:50

So far there's only really one actual toy on my list for him! (Mario racing track thing) The other things are techy (webcam, light up headphone stand), or other non toys like a custom tumbler, a hoodie with his YT channel/gamer logo on, a football (not sure how much use this will get) and a game on the Xbox

Stuck for ideas on a budget, grandparents are getting another mario kart toy and I think a drone, his uncle is getting him a Roblox playset.

He loves his PC, would love a switch or vr (but both are out of budget), has a tonne of Lego and toys that don't get played with very often! Already has a 3d pen, headset, fancy keyboard/mouse/chair

He'll enjoy what he's getting but I could do with a few ideas for things that can be played with, his younger brother has a good selection of different things and I don't want him to look around and be a bit disappointed at the lack of 'toys', but is he just at that age now? 🤷

Still two years of primary here. My son likes the Schleich Eldrador monster figures and Lego. I’ve got him a tamagotchi as a bit of tech.

D20 · 05/11/2023 14:15

This is a good value set Schleich Eldrador Monster Creatures Action Figure Set - 4-Piece Monster Action Figure Toy Set for Boys, Eldrador Creatures Starter Set with Magic Sword - Monster Toys Gift for Boys, Girls, Kids Age 7+ https://amzn.eu/d/isXgEhN and the dragons are the most impressive figures.

We’re buying for an 11 year old who is into many of the same things, but also chess. So we’ve bought him a handmade wooden chess set with his name engraved on it and a canvas print of Spider-Man with graffiti all over him (£15 from Etsy), with some little bits, like a mug, some stickers for his laptop, a ‘how to draw’ book, a choose your own adventure book aimed at a teenage audience and sour sweets. He still likes Prime as well, so DH has found a couple of flavours that are impossible to get in his area.

My eldest is 9.5. He's never actually been all that into toys - he's always preferred things he can build or make. He will be getting board games, Haynes build your own engine, a moneybox safe and a card tricks set as well as some football related stuff.

Mydogisamentalist · 05/11/2023 20:02

My ds is 8 but only really interested in gaming. He still wants toys though but doesn’t play with many of them.

I’ve got him a virtual reality headset thing as his main present. I’m pretty sure it’s a bit old for him but he’s been begging since last February.
He’s also been going on (and on and on and on) about a toy called ‘beast lab’ so I’ve bought that even though it looks like a pile of rubbish.
I will get him some Lego. He never asks for it but he has autism and taking himself off to build Lego is the only thing that calms him down during a meltdown. It’s really more for my sanity than him 😅
Then he’ll get bits like Godzilla figures, Rainbow Friends figures, Roblox annual, Pokémon cards, some kind of plushie and the usual chocolate/snacks.

Eldest is 9 and toys are still very much played with especially with his little brother. He’s getting a Bruder vehicle he’s been after for a few years along with Lego, hot wheels and a switch game. Still need to get some other bits. Grandma is getting him a scaletrix to share with little brother, I doubt we’ll see much of them once that arrives.

I have quite a 'young' 10 year old, I'm getting him Treasure X though as that is right up his street. He loves dress up still so some costumes. And he loves crafting so some craft kits.

sanityisamyth · 05/11/2023 21:10

A driving lesson
Center Parcs holiday (Christmas and birthday as 3 days apart)
Stocking fillers

TadpolesInPool · 06/11/2023 00:18

My boys are 9 and 12 and I'm embracing the lack of toys. For the eldest I remember trying to keep going with them but it never really worked. The only non electronic things they regularly play together with are: nerf guns, light sabres, foam swords and small soft balls (from when they were toddlers!).

This year the 9 year old is getting books, ps4 game, light sabre, and an extension pack for rush hour. Main present is family days out.

Following for ideas. Smile

My son is 12yo and I'm struggling. He's asked for a couple of five nights at Freddie plushies, and I usually buy him whichever new switch game is out but other than that I'm stuck.

He's not into sports, clothing, trainers, technology, food/drink. He spends his days either swimming, gaming on the switch or watching funny videos on YouTube.

PragmaticWench · 11/11/2023 09:49

10 year old DD is getting a learn-to-pick-locks kit, a geode rock splitting set, bop-it and a funky laundry bin splattered with neon paint.

CheesyChipsOnWembleyWay · 11/11/2023 09:55

Football stuff. A net for the back garden, some training related stuff.
Lego, always
A mandalorian light saber.

ZenNudist · 11/11/2023 10:11

I am absolutely struggling nearly 10yo ds2. Quite happy to buy him something expensive but really unwilling to get crap he won't use or play with.

Books we buy all the time anyway. Will probably get manga (set costs £100!) for him, but I promised him a set for passing an exam so its not a main present.

We have "everything " because his brother got similar stuff: drones RC cars etc don't get played with except once or twice.

Probably get pokemon cards and a bunch of plastic figures. I resent spending £££ on absolute tat we have no space for. We will be flinging out other tat to make room.

PhantomErik · 11/11/2023 13:09

My DS11 is possibly a little young for his age but he's getting

Lego ninjago golden ultra dragon
Lego ninjago elemental dragon
Zuru smashers dino island
Jurassic park cards to go in his folder
Halo brute
Space Band book
Ninjago mini builds
Pack of paper & pens
Lego ninjago dvds (6 for £1 in charity shop!!)
Crunchy putty
Treasure X
Ninjago polybag x 2

Longwhiskers · 11/11/2023 14:56

This is my list of ideas for DS 9 - haven’t bought him anything yet except books

KiwiCo science kit thing
Lava lamp or bean bag for bedroom
popcorn maker
Posca pens
Larger version of the game he likes from smart
a watch
Screwball scramble vintage version
Air up bottle (he has asked for this)
thinkFun gravity maze by Ravensburger

My 10 year old loves gaming, so I always buy a game as it's never wasted.

Also Lego, books and board games are a hit. I've bought a card games book/cards this year as I think he's the age to learn different games now.

Does your son have a smart speaker? My son loves his to ask questions and set alarms for reading time at night, play music etc. we have a small Google one for his room, it was only £25 I think.

Equimum · 12/11/2023 22:15

Ours has asked for a specific Lego set, science set & another Beyblade. We're also getting him some boards games.

Indiaplain · 17/11/2023 08:09

As a slightly different idea, last year we got our DS9 a crunch labs subscription. It's like an engineering project that arrives each month, with you tube instructions. The you tuber Mark Rober designs them.

Not super cheap but they have been fun to look forward to each month and the toys he has made are actually played with.

Soccermumamir · 17/11/2023 09:33

Mine has only asked for Friday Night At Freddys pop heads. So have a couple of them for him. He collects pop heads 🤦‍♀️ I've got him a new football kit with his name on for Futsal and other little bits, but think money will be his main pressie this year. He's in Yr6 now so starting to grow out of toys.

He's not into sports, clothing, trainers, technology, food/drink. He spends his days either swimming, gaming on the switch or watching funny videos on YouTube.

Over the years, the swimming kids have had:
Microfibre towels (Decathlon) they dry really quickly and don't take up much space
New fins because their feet outgrow them
Club hoodie
Onesies to put on after training (might not be cool now he's 12 but the girls don't seem to bother so long as they're warm and they often wear them on the way to the pool for early morning training!)
Speedo backpack
Sliders for poolside
A tow float for openwater

Isn't there a minimum age restriction? Aren't virtual reality headsets 12/13 years and over? Hell would freeze over before my 8 year old with his not yet matured brain and body wore one of these. That cannot be good for him?

meagert · 17/11/2023 13:45

@SaltedPies Meta Quest is 10 years old. Although I have to sheepishly admit I didn't know this until you asked and I googled, I've bought one for my sons to share for Christmas, they are 10 and 13, we are quite strict with tech limits but I clearly need to do some more research!!

Lateatnight78 · 17/11/2023 14:43

Lego
Pokemon cards
New hoodie
New chair for his desk
2nd hand PS5

Mydogisamentalist · 17/11/2023 15:05

@SaltedPies I think it’s 10 and I have to admit I’m not exactly thrilled about it! Ds wants one but I suspect he’s been heavily coerced by his dad who wants one more. I think it will be used a few times and then put away as something he will use when he’s a bit older. That is if it’s not obsolete by then!

I am half tempted to send it back. When I bought it, it was top of his list and I couldn’t sway him. The last 6 weeks toys have made a bit of a resurgence. Beast Lab and Treasure X are now the most wanted and I’d rather him be into them than gaming.
