Imagine that you're shopping in June and you come across the perfect gift for a friend. And so you buy said perfect gift and put it away for Christmas, with a lovely warm glow inside. Then imagine your 'friend' thinks you're really fucking sad for doing that. Nice.

I saw a half price Pokemon advent calendar in June, so bought it for DD. Saved me £15, something ticked off the list that I can forget about and I'm sure she will be delighted with it. Doesn't matter to her when I bought it.

I've never understood why it bothers some folk so much that others plan, budget and shop in advance. Perhaps they are the ones that are really fucking sad.

BeastOfBODMAS · 10/11/2023 18:33

Today I bought the liqueur chocolates for mine and DH advent calendar and started a Christmassy novel.

BeastOfBODMAS · 10/11/2023 18:36

Also crossed some things off the list that I have no hope of achieving to save future disappointment

Lovemusic82 · 10/11/2023 18:43

Bought advent calendar’s today 😁

It's the start of November, so I haven't even thought about Christmas. A friend of mine told me in JUNE that she'd got my present. Fucking hell, that's very sad.

You think your friend is sad for buying you a present & thinking about you as early as June?
Nice friend you are ...

Pinkkisugarmouse · 10/11/2023 18:57

I bought 2 advent calendars one for each of my…..cats. My husband put his hands over his face and shook his head. The message “oh dear”🫤🤷‍♂️
But they have them for little furries too so DD’s(20) hamster and gerbil are counting down Advent too. 😆

Pinkkisugarmouse · 10/11/2023 19:00

Oh and one of DD’s presents arrived today. Can’t wrap until December because I have a plaster cast on. Normally I would wrap them as they arrive.

I read this as you sat down and started writing a Christmas novel. I imagined you putting the liquers away then rolling your sleeves up and sitting down to write (at an old fashioned typewriter - naturally) 😁

I bought Christmas Stockings for the cats last year and noticed (before I bought them) that one said Purrfect Cat and one said Best Cat
Had to quickly swap one so both were Purrfect Cat , you can imagine how judgey they'd be if they suspected favouritism ( no I know they cannot read, but they'd KNOW ....)

NoWordForFluffy · 10/11/2023 19:44

I reckon boy cat would be the chosen one, @70isaLimitNotaTarget! 🤔🤣😼

Lavenderfowl · 10/11/2023 19:51

@LadyCuntington any chance you're going to share the recipe pretty please ?

Pinkkisugarmouse · 10/11/2023 20:11

I just ordered two fuzzy duck Baylis and Harding decanters. One will make part of a present the other…from me. They were on offer. Yes I know on Mumsnet Baylis and Harding is the Antichrist but many people off here like it. 😆

Pinkkisugarmouse · 10/11/2023 20:16

So true. I’m always so careful when giving treats that they have exactly the same. They are scoffing so fast they’d never notice but I would know. 😆

Pinkkisugarmouse · 10/11/2023 20:18

70isaLimitNotaTarget this was a reply to you. I’m useless at using quotes on here. 🙄

pizzaHeart · 11/11/2023 00:33

We were at Sainsburys on Thursday so DH stocked up Baileys for me and I found new blackcurrant and raspberry gin liquor, they both were on offer. So we did a little taster session today. First Tesco mince pies with Calvados and treacle pastry - they were nice but I wouldn’t buy them again. Then new gin liquor, which was surprisingly more like gin. I’m thinking about buying another bottle.
Also ordered some chocolates for DD’s stocking.

First Tesco mince pies with Calvados and treacle pastry

  • *I read this as mince pies, a glass of Calvados, and a treacle pasty. Not enough hands but a nice problem to have.

*adds calvados to list

The mince pies were with apple and calvados mincemeat and treacle pastry. I never tried Calvados on its own but in a mince pie it was nice so maybe Calvados could be a new port for Christmas dinner.

Today I’m continuing making my 12 days of Christmas decorations, about to start the swan.
Some of the cracker gifts I ordered are due for delivery today, although I still need to get something for mine and one for a 40 year old man but I’m struggling to think of what to put in his.

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 11/11/2023 10:39

Today I bought some stocking fillers for my dd and sil. Although they are grown up and have two small children, they still love to get a Christmas Stocking.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 11/11/2023 11:18

Today I am making / experimenting with some sausage rolls made from my favourite sausages. They will likely all get scoffed by tomorrow. I shall then make a further batch next week and those ones will be hidden in the freezer for Christmas.

stillholly · 11/11/2023 12:13

I added a few Christmas frozen bits to my weekly shop and will do the same every week to take the sting out of that final Christmas shop.

Pigs in blankets, duck spring rolls. Also picked up some wrapping paper.

I've added a few Christmas playlists to Spotify and have listened to one for the first time today. It's been lovely and festive.

TeaMistress · 11/11/2023 12:39

I sampled the stollen loaf from Marks with my lunch. I'm afraid it wasn't moist enough. Very dry and had a bread consistency rather than a cake. My search for a Christmas stollen continues. Has anyone got recommendations?

I also found their Christmas cake (the bar type) very dry with a slight overcooked taste. I've just bought the Aldi luxury topped stollen. Haven't tried it yet, but it looks lovelg and their stollen bites are always good.
