Does anyone have any gift ideas for a 9yo who likes drawing please? Budget £15-20.

I’m looking for something a bit different or interesting, so not bog standard colouring pens and paper. Maybe Posca pens but what would you put with them? Any other interesting items you’ve found?

A light box.
Blank comic book.
Personalise sketch pad.
There are some really nice drawing sets on Amazon.

Posca pens are great but not really within your budget, especially if you're looking to get something else to go with them.

You could get some other funky pens...my DD like the metallic outline pens and a pad of black art paper as they look really effective.

Google 'how to draw books' - my DC had some of these and loved them.

Can definitely second this recommendation; I bought one for a young niece (who has every art supply known to mankind) a couple of months ago and she loved it.

Or what about a Spirograph?

Or, you could get a small pack of Posca pens from Hobbycraft for £21, or individual pens from £4 each, or an own brand 10 pack of acrylic paint for £15. I’d go on The Works and get a couple of their artists pads that have been going for 50p recently (have just checked, they’re still selling them). They’ve only got 8 pages in, but they’re 10”x12” and are brilliant for kids.

My go to present for arty folk (from 9 to 85yrs and plenty in between!) is a black pad and white or pale pens/pencils to go with it.

Slightly depends on the age but most recent example was for a teenager who was a keen artist. Black pad was from Hobbycraft as were white, very pale blue and very pale yellow art pencils and a pair of thick and thin white gel pens that I got online - enabling the recipient to try a variety of different drawing styles and have lots of fun. (not least because adding highlights to a picture on black paper is very different from adding shadows on white paper.

My grandson is around that age and loves to draw cartoons, so I got him a 'how to draw cartoons' book from Amazon, together with some really nice black drawing pens. He loves it. You could add in some nice felt pens to add colour, and a good pad of paper to make up his own. Maybe even some letraset-style shading dots that can be stuck on - Lichtenstein style.

My 9 year old daughter received this last Christmas and loves it. https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/mala-portable-drawing-case-red-70459896/

Dgd has this it's fab, a really good buy for any artist, i kniw its in the childrens section but ive seen adult artists on instagram with them. We personalised with some cool iron on patches from etsy. They've just brought out a table top portable easel box with storage and canvases too.

Or get them a team of paper rather than a drawing pad - my niece at a similar age was over the moon with a birthday present of a team of paper (doesn’t need to be a fancy one!) and an assortment of pens, pencils and stationery that I’d picked up in sainsburys back in the day when they used to have 90% off things to clear them out…
she was beyond thrilled with having a big pack of grown up paper to herself though - and I’d got her a polypropylene file box in a jolly colour to go with it too, so she had somewhere to put all her favourite drawings safely.

if you have a scrap store near you, they might be worth an investigate…. My local one (Milton Keynes!) has loads of cheap art and craft supplies that are brand new but also their scrap has fantastic bargains - including rolls of paper that are ends from printing books and cost about £2-4 - the one I got for the dc has lasted for years (they are both older now so don’t need it as much but it’s still handy to have in for occasional projects!). They also have big sheets of paper and card as well as all sorts of other bits and bobs that are great for fun crafty things!

Doh. Just spotted autocorrect changed REAM of paper to be wrong 🙄

I'm sure the recipient will appreciate a ream of paper much more than a team of paper! 😂
