Does anyone have a fairly simple and cheap Christmas cake recipe that I could try? Or am I better off getting a kit from the supermarket?

Just that really.
I don't want to be buying packs of dried fruit or spices that will probably never be used again.
I don't bake very much but I do like Xmas cake.
TIA

I use this one:

I've always been able to get a 750g bag of mixed fruit, so no leftover to use up. It's the most straightforward I've found!

I don't have allspice, so I just don't put it in, BTW - already have mixed spice and cinnamon.

I make the Simmer and Stir one from BBC Goodfood.

It is very reasonable and simple, and always gobbled up by the people in this family who "don't like Christmas cake"!

@Trickedbyadoughnut - great minds and all that!

It is so simple and so tasty.

You can adapt most recipes eg lots specify X amount of currants, X sultanas etc- just ignore this and buy the right weight of mixed dried fruit. Ditto spices- you can just use mixed spice no need to shell out on cloves, cinnamon etc if you won't use them again.

I think a kit is a great idea if you don’t bake much, and if you’re not fussy about what goes in. My dh doesn’t like candied peel so it wouldn’t suit us ,and over the years I’ve tweaked the balance of flavours. But it’s a great way to avoid food waste.

An alternative is to buy a fruit cake ready made and feed it until Christmas.
