My DS will be just turned 4 and I’d love to buy some games we can all play at Christmas. We have Buckeroo, Pop Up Pirates, Hungry Hippos, jigsaws. Any inspiration gratefully received!

Kerplunk, disney snakes & ladders, frustration and yeti in my spaghetti were all big hits here!

Footprintsinthesand · 01/11/2023 19:55

I've just bought doughnutters for my 4 year old. I've tried stuff like snakes and ladders, build a beetle but he just doesn't have the attention span

Uno all day long. My lads loved playing from a very young age. Just needed help fanning the cards.

Dobble is a great game for kids - there are quite a few versions, even one for younger children.

The adults in our house have been known to have a game when the kids are in bed 😆

Rockandgrohl · 01/11/2023 20:27

My 5 year old loves jenga, dobble, the fishing game and dominos (we have a set of giant ones) as well as various orchard toys games, particularly shopping list and a football one that I hate 🙈😂

Cat and Mouth is the best game we've ever had. I recommend it to everyone. It's quite expensive at about £25 but the build quality is really nice. And it. Is. Fun!

stressbucket1 · 01/11/2023 20:36

Orchard games, shopping list is a good one.
Dobble too, that's a card game but easy to manipulate the game and let them win occasionally to save the strops.

Velmasglasses · 01/11/2023 20:39

Definitely second the orchard games, especially shopping list. Also there is a gruffalo board game which is great for younger children. Dominoes, jenga, matching games were all popular with my now 5 year old from around age 4.

Ladybird game Orchard Toys.
Mine still loves it years later

Orchard games has some good ones.
outfoxed is lovely as a collaborative family game.
Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza - it says 6+ but my four year old could enjoy it.
My First Carcassonne has been a hit with all my children aged 4.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 01/11/2023 20:44

I heard grabolo is good.

Bear hunt is ok

Pipistrellus · 01/11/2023 20:44

I look for games up to 6+, they seem right developmentally. He likes Dobble, Jenga, Uno.

BoobyDazzler · 01/11/2023 20:45

We loved Dobble when ours were that age and had probably started Uno too.

YikYok · 01/11/2023 20:46

My not-too-bright nearly 5 year old loves the Orchard games and Kerplunk.

He also loves Marble runs and jigsaws.

Ripleysgameface · 01/11/2023 20:46

Zingo bingo is a favourite in our house

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 01/11/2023 20:50

Dobble and Jenga are good cross generational games.

APurpleSquirrel · 01/11/2023 20:56

Definitely Dobble.

Is it the football one that is basically a naff version of snakes and ladders?! (I also hate it 😬)

Petrarkanian · 01/11/2023 21:10

Candyland. Ours was from America, we still play it 15 years later.

WingingIt101 · 01/11/2023 21:10

We picked up "reindeer plop drop" for a fiver in Tesco this week - four little beanbags with reindeer poo pics on and targets that you place around the room and you have to each hold a beanbag in your thighs and race to your target to get it to land on it.

Given it a practice run and dd age three thinks it's hysterical and can't stop showing people!

saraclara · 01/11/2023 21:14

I just introduced my nearly 4 year old DGD to Tummy Ache. She loves it just as much as her mum and auntie did at the same age.

Iheartwhitetshirts · 01/11/2023 21:16

Thanks so much everyone! Taking notes 😀
