No nut vegetarian main for a teenager

I need a vegetarian main course for a teenager who is allergic to nuts.

I will research some good stuffed butternut options as that has worked for me in the past except that last year the one I did had.... nuts in it! So need an alternative option!

I am checking on her willingness to eat mushrooms on the basis that a mushroom pate to start could work.

Any other good ideas? Preferably something I can make/buy in advance so that I can just heat it up at the end.

Sides etc all fine. Thank goodness she's not vegan!

Heidi pie! It’s so delicious, has depth of flavour and goes well with the other roast type staples like roast potatoes etc.

you can either buy them ready made from pieminister or you can find dupe recipes online for making at home https://yourguardianchef.com/chelsea-market-heidi-pie-french-chevre/

Chelsea Market Heidi Pie With French Chevre

My interpretation of Chelsea Market Heidi Pie: a crunchy short pastry filled with sweet potatoes, spinach, red onion and goats cheese.

Growing up I always just ate sides, there was non of this special 'veggie' stuff 35 years ago.

Now we do do a cheesy pasta instead of Turkey, not sure if people would class that as a 'main'.

Honestly veg is more than enough though.

I have to say that I don't want to just offer side dishes. Although I'm more than happy to create a more sophisticated "side" that she can have as a main and that leftovers can be enjoyed on the side. Last year I did a lovely stuffed butternut that was my veggie guest's main but most people enjoyed a small slice as well.

I do quite like the pie options and will be keeping an eye out for that. But I'm still leaning towards butternut and have been doing some online digging. I'd like it to be similar in taste profile to the rest of the meal so looking out for something that perhaps is stuffed with spinach/mushrooms/cheese etc, and not keen on adding Moroccan style or other flavourings, although usually would be up for that. They'll be with us a day or two before as well so will probably do a good veggie curry that day, probably just for everyone, but if we land up with extra guests (always possible around here), I'll probably do a meat curry and a veggie one.

I make a cauliflower cheese pithivier. It is a tesco recipe. You can use ready made pastry and cauliflower cheese. It can also be made in advance. it is delicious and goes well with the sides. My non veggie FIL always tries to snaffle it!

Have a vegetarian option is not "special" or indulging vegetarians. You wouldn't say to the meat eaters "hard luck folks just sides this year". So yeah op do as you feel and offer a vegetarian dish definitely. I would however steer clear off butternut squash as it's done to death and served up as the vegetarian dish in some form or other, not just at Christmas but all year round. A bit like goats cheese.

The Delia Smith parsnip roulade a PP suggested is fabulous. I have made and eaten this with Christmas lunch and it definitely shows the host cares.

I always make myself a lentil loaf for Christmas dinner. Sounds basic but surprisingly tasty and you can change the herbs/spices, add cranberries, etc., to give it a more festive feel. Really easy to make too.

I had a number of veggies one year and I made a sort of roasted veg crumble with a spicy couscous topping from the Leiths Seasonal Bible. Everyone going back for seconds took some and said it went well with the turkey.....

Have you seen the Parsnip bake in Booths looks delicious in its own little parcel and only £15 for 2!
