I will have a 3 month old baby boy this Christmas, I know he won’t know what’s going on or need much this year but does anyway have any recommendations for toys / baby seats / activity sets they would recommend even if it’s for 6M +, thank you 😊

We got our 6 month old a jumperoo. She loved it.

Congratulations on your new baby!

The toys DS really liked at an early age were rattles, colourful silks, a squishy book with a mirror on it and a doll with really big eyes. A bit older he also loved his jumperoo, tummy time toys and these pop up people.

Think about anything you will need/want before they are 1. So jumperoo, ball pit, walker, things for the garden etc. They'll be too young for it at 3 months but there won't be another 'occasion' to buy these things before their 1st birthday so if you can have some as gifts to keep back it helps especially when you're on maternity pay!

The Mama and Papaps snug seat is good. It can be used from 4 months and will last a while. At 5 months my baby is loving teething toys - the matchstick monkey ones are among his favourite. Bath toys might also be a call call. Anything sensory that you can use at tummy time would be ideal - glitter wands, balls, scarves, rattles, tummy time roll etc.

A jellycat pram toy.
They are nice to have in car or pram for the 4-10 month age range when they get bored.

matchstick monkey tether

Liewood silicone bowls (dinosaur ones are nice) and table mat for weaning - get in sales. Seem pricey, but the one mat has been washed and dried 3-4 times a day for 3+ years here and is as new.

if you don't have older children, I'd just get one keepsake type present (and tree ornament) then buy what they would benefit from as they grow. Unless you think of anything they'll be needing soon, activity mat etc.

How about a Cuddle + Kind knitted doll? Your purchase supports free kids meals, education, etc. Very cute and meaningful keepsake.

You can also get your little one a matching handmade outfit from a small U.K. business www.KnittingForA.Etsy.com
Adorable customer photos in the shop's reviews page.

My middle child was 3 month for his first xmas too, he just had his 5th birthday. Some suitable things we got our kids:

Fisher price Butterfly dreams 3-in-1 mobile (had to buy 2 as my middle
child STILL uses his projection unit and youngest needed on too... both
used every night)

Taggly blanket (very successful, my 2 year old wont sleep without it)

Mamas and Papas Lotty Ladybird floor gym (both my younger kids loved it as it got handed down)

Tomy Hide and squeak eggs (the shells will forever get lost though)

Ball pool and balls (might be better for a tiny bit older but it won't take long until it will be in use)

That's not my books (if you want to start a book tradition)

Rainmaker from home bargains (cheap little stocking filler)

Things I wouldn't recommend - the Lamaze spin gym, I wanted on for ages but neither kid liked it and would scream as soon as you put them on it.

Our 6mo old loves:

Lamaze Captain Calamari
Tiny Love Christopher Fox
The shark one by matchstick monkey
An egg rattle

We got our LO a set of sensory balls and had a family photoshoot with her, and I used the pictures to make a Christmas photo collage and a slideshow. Granted, it was a gift for me and DH but for our DD as well, because I really hope she'll enjoy seeing her childhood photos.

newandconfused5 · 01/11/2023 11:05

I selfishly bought things that they would need for Xmas traditions.
So my 3 month old got a wooden advent calendar, xmas stocking, xmas eve wooden box, xmas sack. All things to use year after year (that his older siblings already have).. plus a second hand bundle of baby toys from Vinted!

AndSoFinally · 01/11/2023 18:57

Those cloth building blocks are great once they're about 5-6 months and can kick them over

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 01/11/2023 19:02

It’s expensive, but I bought for a winter baby a specially for babies soft sheepskin to lie on, or for ‘tummy time’. The parents had all hard wooden floors.
It was from Celtic.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 01/11/2023 19:13

Mine enjoyed those big, soft blocks..usually have the alphabet or something on them from 6 months ish. Hours of entertainment of me making a tower and the kids knocking it down over and over and over again.

bluesky45 · 01/11/2023 20:34

We got a nice teddy bear for both DC first Christmas. Not really one to play with but it sits on their shelf looking lovely.
