We have got him a bike already, and it’s more than we intended to spend (it’s a good one) 😥 So now I’m just thinking he’s going to walk in on Christmas morning to only one gift. What else could we get him that would be exciting for him but not end up another couple of hundred pounds

Also my son loved his wooden peg puzzles. I got him letters and shapes ones and animal ones etc. easily get those second hand.

A water art pad like this was also a hit. Aquadoodle Super Rainbow Deluxe Large Water Doodle Mat, Official Tomy No Mess Colouring & Drawing Game, Suitable Toddlers and Children from 18 Months

Pop up tent / tunnel combo. Hands down the one toy that had the greatest longevity. Is impressive when up.

At 2.5 my sons favourite gift was a flash speed mop 😂😂 Peg puzzles, play doh, pjs/onesie with favourite character on, books, chocolate. For most kids it’s the joy of opening so I get my son lots of his favourite chocolate/ biscuits to bulk up his presents…. I’d be buying them anyway and they then last a good few weeks so it’s win win!!

Just picked up an ikea play kitchen on FB market place for £10 - I’ve repainted it and stencilled his name on and it looks incredible. Total cost less than £20

When my daughter was that age, I got everything second hand. She had no idea. A big beach ball was a favourite! Also puzzles and books from charity shop. I am trying to do the same now she wants more expensive things. Good for the planet and my pocket! Facebook marketplace/Gumtree etc. She won’t mind and if it does break etc, I will not feel so bad replacing with another second hand purchase.

@yeekls @TheChosenTwo one of the issues is finding decent second hand bikes.

Where I am they sell like hotcakes so if you want one at the time your child needs it you spend the nearly the cost of getting it new. One of my friends with older kids actually sold her kids bikes for what they cost. We gave our DD balance bike away to a friend who then gave us the exact money it cost for it.

The cheaper bikes are too heavy for them to pick up when the bike falls over.

I actually spent 6 months looking for a second hand bike for my DD at 2 and in the end bought her a new one that was on sale. She is still using it at 5 but will grow out of it in the next year.

This is basically what happened. Contacted the shop and asked what the best price they could do was and they did take a good chunk off! They sell extremely well second hand, that was why I ended up getting the one we got so I think based on what they’re selling for on Facebook just now I’ll lose less than £50 on it. I did look to buy one on there but they were either the size up from what I needed or not any of the colours we’d have picked

I agree with taking a look in Charity shops etc, I have bought some great items in previous years, either brand new and never opened or in great condition and just got rid of the box if damaged and put in a plain box or container, was never commented on.
