Two nieces aged 16 & 19, can't afford to spend much but would like to get then something nice if anyone has any suggestions? Don't want to give vouchers & the older one doesn't drink alcohol but any others suggestions of ideas/poplular brands with this age group very welcome!

DS saves all his money.

DD spends all of hers. So much so she has a Saturday job and has been working shifts over half term.

DD creates PowerPoints with links of exactly what she wants for Christmas and Birthdays.

Tbf this makes life easier for me and it might be items from Shein or wherever, nothing ridiculously expensive or anything.

HappiDaze · 26/10/2023 19:21

Actually she does save her birthday and Christmas money she told me and only uses it in an emergency.

Otherwise she just spends her monthly pocket money of £70 and now money from her new job

So yes she like being given money to save

HappiDaze · 26/10/2023 19:25

DD money goes on bus fares, food when out and about with friends. Crap from Primark like eyelashes, mascara.

Her money also goes on lunch at college, clothes.

I'll buy most of her clothes and shoes myself but she'll buy some clothing items and also trawl charity shops.

Thanks for all the suggestions, def a few good things to have a look at! they live in quite a small town so no nandos or anything near by & they both have part time jobs as well as student loans so have their own money to spend which is why I wanted to avoid vouchers or cash!

@HappiDaze I suppose if the money is being saved that makes sense to give money.

Rainraingoaway21 · 26/10/2023 20:17

How about some cosy pyjamas. Or one of those fake 'oodies'. They seem to be in lots of shops.

@HappiDaze out of curiosity....if your 16 year old is given money does she save it or spend it? If it's spend then what is she buying? Surely that's what you would suggest as a gift?

DD often saves smaller amounts and then buys a larger item. Or she saves it and then buys something a couple of months later when she sees something. For example she got some money for her GCSEs from her grandmother in August but only bought herself something last week.

@bananaboats If your nieces have their own money I would really check with the parents and go for something they use.

I have bought one of these personal styling gift vouchers. She is a professional stylist based in the UK but works with clients worldwide. I booked her for my daughter's birthday and she absolutely loved it! Honestly, it was the best gift I think I had ever given her! https://capsuleclosetstylist.com/personal-stylist-gift-voucher/

I'd give them money, they are so particular about what they like at that age. My daughter wouldn't be interested in most of the things mentioned on this thread

Depending upon where you are how about tickets to an event eg Brian Cox, museum or activity eg Ice Skating or Crazy Golf, or paddle boarding…
