I love doing the stockings and could buy stuff for them forever. As a child my stocking was actually an adult pair of tights absolutely crammed full of stuff and it was so exciting to wake up to! My older children used to get around 40 items in their stockings but I’ve gradually cut it down over the years. This list is me being very restrained but I’m sure it is still way ott to others!

For 5&7 year olds
Satsuma
Chocolate coins
Tube of sweets
Tree decoration
Squishmallow surprise toy
Gabby dollhouse surprise/fossil dig mini
Nerf bullets refill/pinky promise necklace
Magnetic connect 4/bingo
Keychain Operation/Game of Life
Scrunchie/ some elf ‘listening ears’
Gellibaff sachet
Character notebook
Character pen
Paint your own suncatcher
Fart ninja (this will definitely be a 5 minute wonder for the fart sounds but they’ll think it’s hilarious and it’s not something I would ever buy so Father Christmas MUST be real…Plus they really like ninjas at the moment)

My 2 year olds stocking is going to have:
Bubbles
Car shaped crayons
Chocolate coins
Christmas stickers
Foam letter and number stickers
LUSH candy corn lip scrub (he loves it 🤷‍♀️😂)
Giant chocolate buttons
Mini role play fast food tray
Paw Patrol cutlery set
Velcro ball dart elephant

Your stockings sound great and will be lots of fun for your kids!!

chocolatepudandchocolatesauce · 17/10/2023 13:06

I love what you all have!

Mine too have stockings full tof tat I'd never allow!

This year they (age 8 and 12) have:

Chocolate "nice" medal
Giant gummy bear
Chocolate coins
Satsuma
Shaped pencil cases (cat, leaf, bug)
Rox game
Bean filled creatures
Pez refills
Gross squidgy dog
Slime filled bug (I don't remember buying these!!!)
Bath salts
Yoyo
Tube of sweets

Wrongsideofpennines · 17/10/2023 16:04

These stocking sound amazing! I love that satsuma is up there at the top of the list - same here. We always got shiny pennies too so I've included that in mine. But my husband made us do this stupid rule about stocking gifts being wrapped and its daft as you can't wrap up 8 pence in shiny coins.

Struggling for ideas for the baby this year. They'll be 7 months and don't really need anything but 3 year old will notice if they get nothing.

Could you do teething rings, small bath toys, baby cutlery set, small soft toy (if you could find a soft toy satsuma your dc could have the same!)

ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS · 17/10/2023 16:10

They sound amazing!

mine are very sparce in comparison this year, I need to get shopping.

QforCucumber · 17/10/2023 16:11

@Wrongsideofpennines DS2 first xmas he was only 6 months old, we only did a stocking for him for the same reason as you - he got
Nuby Bath watering can
A little set of toddler cutlery
A small teddy (this happens for both of them every year, he pokes out of the top)
Chocolate santa
Xmas hat
Novelty socks and sleepsuit
bath crayons
2 happyland people (from ebay, to go with the happyland set he'd got under the tree)

Comedycook · 17/10/2023 16:13

I think it sounds a good amount. I always add stuff they will need anyway to bulk it out so socks, pants, toothbrush, toiletries, stationery

EcoCustard · 17/10/2023 16:48

Doesn’t sound like too much ta, my 4dc aged 4-9 mostly will be getting in their stocking:
various sweets/chocolate.
pens/gel pens to suit.
tape dispenser (always borrowing mine for crafting)
note pad.
girls getting some hair bits.
eldest boy is getting some smellies (he’s always stealing his dads).
lego minifigure/playmobil mini figure
top trumps.
whoopee cushion for the youngest
i-spy book.
@Wrongsideofpennines when my were that age they used to get:
something like a bag of Ella’s kitchen snacks, to eat whilst siblings were eating sweets.
space blanket for sensory.
Mini music shaker/ rattle
soft toy
mini board book ( Gruffalo ones where a hit)
teething toy.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/10/2023 22:24

Cadbury are doing their chocolate coins again , I bought a couple of the nets for my adult Dc to try out . They both loved them. Usually it’s Sainsbury ones but this year Cadbury

PuttingDownRoots · 17/10/2023 22:27

Will you children use and enjoy everything in there? If so, its not tat. Tat is suff the won't be use as you buy it jus for the sake of buying.

Mine are 10&12 ad so far they have...
A Harry Potter hair scrunchie.

I need to get started!

bluesky45 · 17/10/2023 22:34

Mine have satsuma, choc coins, big tube of smarties, chocolate Santa.
Then they have:
a how to draw book
set of 3 bath bombs
Minecraft blind bag
Stop motion toy thing that links to an app
one has mini jigsaw and the other has mini Lego set
And then they might get Pokémon cards too, not decided yet!

ChristmasIsComing2023 · 17/10/2023 22:51

I might add a toothbrush to my 2 year olds stocking as he actually loves brushing his teeth 😅

Catsfrontbum · 17/10/2023 22:54

Tradition are these items
chocolate orange
choc coins
bath bomb
shower gel- posh or novelty
body spray
book
pants- posh ones for DS
socks- stance ones
stupid game/toy
can of pop
marshmallow fluff
lip gloss/balm
hand warmers
magic gloves
pens-nice ones from Typo
pencils
a gadget of some sort last year DD got an extendable grabber, DS got an ear pod cleaner.

then they get a few other little bits I pick up here and there like Dd is into stars so she got some star earrings and a star fairy light set. DS loved prime so he got a bottle
of prime last year (when they were hard to get!) Dd got a tiny sloth microwaveable warmer which she loved and a toad keyring for her own house key. DS got some x box controller pad things which I’d heard about. Small and not expensive. But wanted and loved!

stockings are the best bit!

WaitingfortheTardis · 18/10/2023 05:26

Sounds plenty, we only do one main gift under the tree and anything else goes in the stocking so it can seem a bit more, but is really just spread differently. Gifts from other family go under the tree, but both the main and stocking here are from Father Christmas.

Dd will have:

Lip balm
Book
Lol surprise ball
Magic flannel
Mini Polly Pocket set
Notebook and pen
Craft kit
Barbie
Barbie surprise pet
Mini Lego set
Hairband
Treat snack- chocolate coins or similar
Cuddly toy - possibly a squishmallow
New socks and/or knickers depending what she needs.

KevinHoho · 18/10/2023 06:53

Oh lots of lovely stockings!

@WaitingfortheTardis mine dont get masses under the tree from us either. They get one main present, sometimes a smaller present, and usually a book. Although my teenagers just want money really so that’s their main present and then the get a couple of more expensive little bits (eg my dd likes glossier lip gloss which is £18 so that has to be a present not a stocking filler even though it’s tiny!). Their stockings are infinitely more boring too! Sometimes I think I had more children just to keep Christmas more exciting for longer 🤣

@Wrongsideofpennines I forgot to list the shiny coin! Don’t do what I did a few years ago and order the alphabet 10p coins for them to display, all but the youngest two had spent them by the time I got the frame organised.

KevinHoho · 18/10/2023 07:00

@Wrongsideofpennines its hard when you already have stuff from older ones isn’t it. I did stuff like happyland people and plan toys stuff, new bath toys and baby snacks for babies but it definitely got harder with every child!

OP posts:
KevinHoho · 18/10/2023 07:06

@Catsfrontbum I agree that stockings are the best bit. Our traditional items have changed quite a bit over time eg they always used to get a little wooden spinning top but we’ve loads of them now and youngest ds has allergies so can only use boring bath stuff so I no longer put fun bubble bath in.

Letsbekindplease · 18/10/2023 07:13

First of all, I didn’t know there was a “Christmas” section to mumsnet. I am so excited about this!

i love all your ideas. I’ll be stealing gas a few. My son is 4 and daughter 1, so a good mix of ideas here

Nokoolaidherethanks · 18/10/2023 07:21

Sounds about right to me but I'm amazed you've bought all this already! I've bought nothing for xmas yet!!!

fourelementary · 18/10/2023 08:44

@KevinHoho the only unnecessary item I’d say from your list is a tree ornament as it’s Xmas day- and I’d give that (if you’ve got one in mind) on the day you decorate the tree… maybe with a wee Xmas book. I used to buy similar for my older kids and now we have an advent book box that comes out on Dec 1st with a collection of Xmas books (for grandkids now mostly, though I try to get a chapter book to read together too).

@Wrongsideofpennines a stacking tower- stacked!! Magic wash cloth or baby sponge/bath toys, teething toys a flashing ball or a material ball

Blippard · 18/10/2023 09:05

Bath crayons (poundland)
Magic flannel
Thomas the tank engine bath confetti (Aldi)

BEE08 · 18/10/2023 11:26

grow your own shark
bag of marbles ( he has a marble run coming for Christmas.)
gummy pizza
pop it ball
temporary dinosaur tattoos
space small water pistol
yo-yo ( he has asked for this.)
Magic wand
Spiderman toothbrush set
frog magic flannel
Spiderman socks
Bag of Percy pigs
chocolate coins
Orange

for my 12 year old DSD:

lip barns
pop it ball
pop it keyring
putty
Shower gel
gloves
pens
hair toggles
stitch socks
sweets
chocolate coins
orange

I need to add a couple of more things to her stocking.
I have bought it all, but have most of what’s on the list.

KevinHoho · 18/10/2023 13:48

@fourelementary I see where you’re coming from however Father Christmas has put a tree decoration in each of their stockings every year (for 19years!) so it’s a bit late to for us change that now. They each have a box of their own decorations and their own mini tree to put them on and they’ll be able to take them with them when they leave home.

Nokoolaidherethanks · 18/10/2023 07:21

Sounds about right to me but I'm amazed you've bought all this already! I've bought nothing for xmas yet!!!

We have a lot of birthdays this end of the year so I generally try to do stockings in September, my own dc in October, then spread out nieces and nephews, siblings and parents through November and December as I get ideas for them. Otherwise it’s too much shopping all at once with all the birthdays as well! There’s no worry about my dc changing their minds as I only buy stuff they’ve been asking for repeatedly for months not something they’ve just seen an advert for and decided they want. If anything else does come up I pass on the idea to grandparents/aunties and uncles or they can wait until their birthday. They’ve never been disappointed yet!
