"Big" joint gift for 11 and 7 year old

Hiya

A relative likes to buy my DSs a joint gift at Christmas. He is generous (£100-150 kind of budget) and likes it to be a non-tech toy.

I can usually always think of something. But this year I'm stumped!

They've had goal posts, a rugby poles set-up, Lego, magnatiles etc on the past. But I just can't think of anything (they'd happily have more Lego but we are SWAMPED with the stuff).

Any ideas?!?

Tickets for a day out somewhere? Or a season pass if it stretches to that.

CuteCillian · 16/10/2023 21:47

A kitten?

SkaneTos · 16/10/2023 21:47

Tricky!

High quality and fancy art supplies?

More Lego anyway?

AvocadoSurprise · 16/10/2023 21:47

A day out at Legoland

SkaneTos · 16/10/2023 21:47

Tickets for something is a good idea! I agree with the previous poster.

TooDeLoi · 16/10/2023 21:49

Definitely needs to be a "thing". Not tickets or a day out (I'd struggle with travel costs for one thing). Plus relative's preference.

Definitely not a kitten!!! 🙈

What about an experience?

For example, learning to climb or surf or ski? There are camps that kids can attend or he could pay for private lessons. Or going to a show in London? Or taking a trip with him (the gift-giver) to do things like ice-skating at Christmas and seeing the Christmas displays in the city. Another one would be a cookery class. He could go along with them or you could or they could go alone. Where I live, a couple of different cookery schools offer them. Another idea is to take them to a game if they're into a sport.

Edit:
Just saw that he likes it to be a thing, but I'd talk to him. If it does need to be a thing, how about a tent or sleeping bags?

Ifyoulikealotofchocolateonyourbiscuit · 16/10/2023 21:49

Trampoline?

benefitstaxcredithelp · 16/10/2023 21:50

A garden swing/small climbing frame/ninja slack line/small trampoline.

A subscription for a science or craft kit

An annual pass for a zoo/aquarium/science museum etc

TooDeLoi · 16/10/2023 21:51

I feel maybe the time for a trampoline has passed? Loads of their friends have them, unused. I never bothered and they never asked for one.

But it's that kind of "big thing" that's the right concept.

Garden/sports equipment can easily reach that price range - football goals, basketball hoop etc.

decent board games can come in quite pricey, ones like ticket to ride, or dixit, can easily be £35/40, so a bundle of those could work?

lovely gift set of books? The illustrated Harry Potter books are great, and think there are 5 currently available - dd2 gets the new one each year and they are around £20 each. Or, the Mina Lima series of Harry Potter books are amazing (as are other Mina Lima books, or prints), and about £30 each, which quickly adds up.

musical instruments would me my dc’s choice. There’s a few starter instruments that would fall in that price range?

RagzRebooted · 16/10/2023 22:06

Boxing/punch bag? My DCs would love one of those (and they're older but would have enjoyed it at 7). If you've got room!
Tent as per PP is also a good suggestion, though maybe for summer.
Also like the electronic drum kit suggestion.

AlwaysColdHands · 16/10/2023 22:16

Chess set?

SandSunWaves · 16/10/2023 22:21

I think you need to start having a chat with your relative about the fact that this is starting to not work for your kids and their age gap. This works so well for things like climbing frames, goals, trampolines when they are younger but an 11 year old won't get the use out of that to make it a good present.

If you can give more details about your kids and the stuff they like we might find something but there just isn't much generic stuff that isn't tech or experiences that will fit that bill. Pool or air hockey table?
