Mine will be 6 months and i have no idea either 🙈

BlairWaldorfOG · 15/10/2023 22:08

High chairs 🤣 to be honest I'm not getting my daughter (who will also be 5 months) much other than the next size up clothes which she'll need, some bath toys and then maybe a couple of other bits.

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 15/10/2023 22:16

At that age mine got a cute plate/bowl/cup combo ready for the introduction of food just after xmas, and the colourful wooden rainbow i’d been looking for an excuse to buy 😄
oh, and a hat that made them look like a christmas pudding.

Devilsmommy · 15/10/2023 22:27

Any kind of soft toys/books be ause they are getting to the stage where they just want to shove everything in their mouths or if they're not sitting up yet a projector for when they are laying down looking up at ceiling. Mine loved staring at lights/shadows at this age

Twimum23 · 15/10/2023 22:31

What are you all thinking of starting the babies on for their first introduction to food ? I’ve been told either porridge or the baby rice ?
it’s hard when they at this age plus mine were born 8 weeks prem so still a bit small aswell

I started mine at 4 months but he wouldn't touch porridge and I didn't want to give rice. I started him with pureed veg first. Just a single vegetable when starting so carrots, sweet potato, sweetcorn. Then the single fruits. Mine loved banana, apple, pears. Are you doing baby led or spoon feeding? I did spoon feeding myself as I didn't think he'd eat much if I left him to it. Thankfully he eats everything now🤣 good luck with it, especially with twins, be ready for mess is all I can say😁

Twimum23 · 15/10/2023 22:40

@Devilsmommy i think I might start with me holding spoon and then as they get use to having the food let them start using spoons. Did you give your anything else other than formula? Ie juice or anything

OP posts:
SleepingStandingUp · 15/10/2023 22:44

My twins were 12 days old at Christmas
They got a fun rattle each, an outfit and a book. I think. It's quite a blurry time.

I wouldn't bother with baby rice, we started with mushed up veg. Porridge is fine too I reckon.

Devilsmommy · 15/10/2023 22:46

As he was only 4mo when he started he could only really have formula as they're not allowed water before 6mo. Then when he was 6mo he wouldn't drink plain water so had to get the Heinz baby water with apple and blackcurrant even though it's for 12mo+. He was absolutely fine with it and still only drinks that water now at nearly 13mo.

Twimum23 · 15/10/2023 22:55

@SleepingStandingUp is that their little jars of mashed up veg and stuff or our veg just mushed ?
@Devilsmommy was yours ok with the food at that age ? Didn’t have bad belly or anything

OP posts:
Devilsmommy · 15/10/2023 22:57

No he was absolutely fine though it did get awkward when moving onto dinner things because he's got a dairy intolerance but we got through it fine and he's thriving.

Twimum23 · 15/10/2023 23:01

That’s really good these are my first baby twins so just getting all the advice I can get.

Good age for a jumperoo as they generally grow into them at 5-6 months. I would look on fb marketplace though as you can usually buy then for around £20 then sell them on again for the same amount when they are outgrown a few months later

A bit younger, but my baby will be around 1 month at Christmas and I need to get him a few bits due to him having older siblings who will expect santa to bring him gifts. Ideas I have

https://yesbebe.co.uk/collections/petit-boum - these sensory bottles. I have bought them for babies in the past and they are great for keeping in a handbag and bringing out when you go to coffee shops / restaurants etc

An oli Ella dozy dinkum doll I'm ocean

Halilit Savannah rhythm band - instruments shaped like animals

Some sensory balls

Books.

Dd1 was 7 months her first Xmas and she got the singing Cookie jar toy which was a big hit. Also the toy squeaky eggs (still sometimes played with 7 years later)

Petit Boum at Yes Bebe

OP, look up scientific based guidance on weaning. Do not give your infant juice, baby rice has zero nutritional value. If you wait till their gut is ready for food, you can just give them normal food, with no salt.

00100001 · 16/10/2023 16:41

Nothing.

They'll get given loads anyway.

00100001 · 16/10/2023 16:42

As for weaning, if they're 5 months old a d 8 weeks premature, they're basically 3 months old right now and nowhere near weaning stage.

Wouldn't even think about it until the new year

Don't give babies under a year ANYTHING OTHER THAN WATER or MILK TO DRINK!!!

00100001 · 16/10/2023 16:45

And 4 months is FAR too early to give anything other than milk.

Wait for your babies to be 6 months old ... (From their due date)

Edited

Actually, lots of prem babies wean early (under Drs' advice) due to them having poor nutrient stores at birth as they were born before they had chance to build themselves up. Obviously it has to be done carefully and baby-led weaning is unlikely to be suitable as the babies are likely to be too immature in terms of strength and muscle development to safely handle whole food.

OP - can you speak to your paediatrician / GP / HV for weaning advice.

Twimum23 · 16/10/2023 20:18

@fartfacenotfatface yeah when they had their doctors check the doctor said they was a really good weight and he was surprised that they are on nutriprem 2 already which they got discharged with from hospital. I’ll prob wait till Jan feb time mayb before starting them on anything I’ll see what the doctor says.

Bath toys
"That's not my" books
Big lift the flap books or wooden books
Peg board games
Jumperoo
Spoons to play with (this then helps get them ready for weaning being used to a spoon)
A stacking toy
My DD was 8 months last Xmas & I got her & DS (4 then) a brilliant set of building blocks they both love & have done ever since b it it comes and goes in stock which are squirrel toys rainbow blocks stepped set for £10
Great but

I think presents depend in part on how much storage you have - we are fortunate to have a bit of space so DD will be getting things she’s too little for now, but will want before her birthday/ next Christmas, eg a walker type toy, a puddlesuit (even if just for going on the swings in the park) etc.

Twimum23 · 17/10/2023 21:39

It’s hard was walking around shopping today and didn’t know where to start with them other than a few next size up in outfits

OP posts:
Fluffyc1ouds · 18/10/2023 12:03

We didn't get anything when DS was that age, they haven't got a clue what's going on.

Relatives ended up giving him a few presents but I don't think I'd slept in months at that point and we were skint. We just enjoyed a quiet Christmas together at home and I appreciated not having to deal with all the faff.
