What is the go to skin care for spotty teen boys?

I'm thinking of doing a small bundle for 13yo DS of more age appropriate skin care as he's getting quite spotty and a bit self conscious.

What is the go to range for teen boys these days? Any recommendations?

I want to do a bundle for Christmas I mean - that's why I'm posting in this section! Or I might get a few bits for stocking etc. thanks!

I've got mine using La Roche Posay effaclar

But Boots will maybe have some offers on Lab Series orClinique

Chocolateteabag · 12/10/2023 20:59

DS also likes the black peel off face masks so maybe as a stocking filler?

FictionalCharacter · 12/10/2023 21:01

La Roche Posay is a good shout - but are you sure your 13 yo will be pleased to get a bundle of zit-busting skincare for Christmas?!

This is something you just buy your son as a toiletry he needs. Don't give it as a Christmas gift!

UndertheCedartree · 12/10/2023 22:01

My DS uses the Boots witch hazel face wash and spot stick.

Why not? I buy toiletries for my DC for Christmas.

UndertheCedartree · 12/10/2023 22:03

The spot stick is perfect size for a stocking!

Chilli81 · 12/10/2023 22:03

I've got mine cerave face wash which seems to be working. Not sure he'd be too excited if it was a Xmas pressie though.

UndertheCedartree · 13/10/2023 00:24

Maybe it's just my son - he's really into keeping clean but he knows the products are expensive so is quite happy to receive them at Christmas!

Maybe try Sam Farmer. Designed for teen skin.

Mine uses the tropic guys stuff. He’s doing well using that, but I also agree boys are very sensitive about this stuff. It was very quiet conversations in the corner about this stuff, whereas my teen daughter was absolutely fine. I don’t think I would give to my teen son as a gift, he would be very embarrassed

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 13/10/2023 07:11

Doctors appointment before he scars.

It's funny isn't it...my tween girl would love to receive a little hamper of good quality skin care; my teen DS would not.

He would be very happy with nice toiletries, especially if they pertained to be related to 'sport' or 'active', but products for bad skin are a bit more personal and might be met with a bit of embarrassment or shame. I'm not saying they wouldn't be appreciated if he needs them, but to pass them off as a gift might not be.

A couple of products in his stocking is fine, but otherwise I personally would just buy him what is pretty essential skincare.

I am following this thread for suggestions for teen skin products though 😊

My sons like the tea tree facial pad things from Superdrug. They're normally on some sort of buy one get one half price deal

Elisheva · 13/10/2023 09:48

Not for Christmas, but if he is really spotty, as opposed to just a couple, then get the antibiotics from the GP. They really do work for acne.

bobdylannumber1 · 13/10/2023 10:34

My son 16 uses la roche possay also, its very good ,however my son has acne was giving antibiotics by the doctor and seen by a dermatologist last month got a stronger antibiotic and cream improved 10 fold back to dermatologist in 3 months. My daughter uses la roche possay she has few spots its working well for her. She would love a hamper of skin and hair care dont think son would although he always gets lynx sets at Christmas.

Cerave non foaming face wash, acnecide and if that fails, GP appointment.

Anyone recommend skincare products for teen 13y old , he has acne and been using aveeno oat cleanser and other aveeno items as he has sensitive skin but don't seem to be making much of a difference I've heard Cerve is good ?Daffodil TIA

MerylSqueak · 10/04/2024 16:25

If it's bad acne, have you considered antibiotics? My dd had bad acne and we tried everything. She still uses things listed above but only antibiotics have made a real difference.

EmmmMumofOnexx · 10/04/2024 16:26

@MerylSqueak I didn't think of that, thanks I will look into that's and see if it helps thank you😊

If it is actual acne you need to take him to the GP.
