Was chatting at work earlier and a colleague said she always knew when Christmas was coming as her mum would get her 'Christmas book' out of the drawer next to her bed. It was a small red cover notebook like the type you can buy at post offices and it had each year's planning in it going back a few years. How do you guys plan? Do you have a book? Or a little folder? I want one but don't really know how to do it

I LOVE my Christmas planner and my children certainly know Christmas is coming when it appears! I finished my a4 planner last year (had about 8 years worth of Christmas plans in it). This year I have started a new a5 notebook so I can carry it around better. In the a4 one I tended to print out pages I made on canva (I used the same pages just with different backgrounds and fonts each year), but this year I have done it all by hand - much more time consuming but lots of fun. I include the following sections:

  • A calendar plan of December to write in all our events.
  • A week by week list of all the tidying/cleaning and planning that needs to be done from Sept-Dec (heavily inspired by the Grand Holiday Plan from Organised Home)
  • A present list for all nieces, nephews and godchildren
  • Individual present/stocking lists for each of my DC and DH.
  • Baking list
  • Craft list
  • Decorations plan (we have the same decorations each year but they sometimes get put in a different places or we make something new from the garden so I like to record this for the next year)
  • Cooking timetables for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day

Whatever I run out of I make a note in next year's calendar. So 1st December 2023 says (I just checked) curling ribbon!!! sherry!!! I think of myself as ahead of the game.

I LOVE THIS!

I love looking at other peoples planners- i know its weird- I love it when you see someone in a coffee shop with their planner and always try to sneak a glimpse!

I think I want something like this but in a binder - I will get on Canva!

I have an Excel doc listing all the gifts/costs that I buy for everyone each year. It also covers stocking fillers, wrapping paper, booze and Xmas food shop. IEach year is new tab. It goes back to ~2018 and the costs have increased year-on-year. Obviously everything costs more this nowadays but also the fact that the kids are now teens plays a big part.

@Candlesonthetable please adopt me. Seriously, you have your shit together.

ilovebagpuss · 12/10/2023 20:59

I'd love to be that organised every year. Last year I did treat myself to a really pretty notebook that I enjoyed writing my lists in.
Food and I broke this down just for Christmas Eve
Christmas Day
Boxing Day
Then the food shopping list
Then presents by person
Outings or things we might do
That's it really my kids are teens so not so much required as when they were little.
