A family member has been suffering various health issues this past year or so and has started to really focus on her diet and eating well. She now loves to cook from scratch, incorporating ingredients that are known for their health benefits for example turmeric, seeds etc. She is (by doctors advice) now gluten free. She does still eat meat but is trying to cut down. She has started to eat a lot more fish and vegetables. I'd like to get her a cookbook, could anyone suggest one that might be suitable.

Anna Jones A Modern Way To Eat is a good veggie, cook from scratch, healthy but interesting cook book.

I really like to BOSH vegan cookbooks despite not being vegan.

Blue zones.

Another vote for the Dr Rupy books. His approach is exactly what your friend is wanting to do.

The GF bit is more difficult than the vegetarian/vegan bit
And not only is GF more difficult but it is more essential.
Being vegetarian/vegan is a choice; being GF is a medical necessity.

I have the river cottage gluten free cookbook. Everything I've made has been delicious

Taytotots · 11/10/2023 09:12

As @HannahDefoesTrenchcoat and @AnnaMagnani say, the Dr Rupy books would fit this bill. I'd go for 'The Doctor's Kitchen' his first one. Not gluten free by default but many recipes are ot could be adapted. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Doctors-Kitchen-Supercharge-delicious-everyday/dp/0008239339

When I say GF cooking is difficult, I don't mean "GF cooking is difficult". I mean that our society is deeply ingrained (see what I did thereGrin ) in wheat-based cooking (bread, pastry, cake, etc) and it's difficult to make the dietary change.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 11/10/2023 09:26

Thanks everybody I agree the GF element is most important and she's not vegetarian just trying to cut down on red meat and up her veggies in general.

So many good suggestions here I'll maybe have to get her 2 books!! and hope she invites me round for dinner

Rachel ama... google her recipes, she has a few cookbooks out

Also have a look at Meera Sodha “East”. From memory, lots are gluten free or the gluten bit isn’t an essential part.

Cheeesus · 11/10/2023 11:27

I got this recently and there is hardly any gluten in it. Lots of bean-y salady things. The actual meals aren’t mostly not veggie though.

Sorry, I don’t think the image is high enough quality to be helpful.

Look up Becky Excell on Amazon; she has GF cookbooks, and also a Christmas-specific one. Comes highly recommend
