Christmas tree + toddler

We bought a Christmas tree at the sales in January and now we’ve settled in our house and have a nice window in the living room to put it up but I’m wondering if it’s just going to be a nightmare with a toddler. He likes climbing and I’m sure will be attracted to the bobbles etc on the tree. We obviously don’t leave him alone although I’m just trying to decide if we should hold it off for a year as will it just be a pain to continue to direct him away from the tree and he might get upset he can’t play with it. Anyone had any experience with toddlers and Christmas trees?

4 Dc and not one of them ever tried to climb the tree. Dc4 did love rearranging all the decorations everyday, between him and the cat it looked a bit sparse in places.

We fasten ours to the wall (it's massive so would really hurt if it landed on them). Also just have wooden and felt decorations. All my lovely glass ones have been packed away for a few years now.

No glass baubles. Check properly because a lot of the ones that don’t look like glass actually are.

We had some specific decorations lower down that were “his” decorations and he loved taking them on and off the tree. IKEA jingle bells were a big hit.

My parents drilled hook into the ceiling and tied top of the tree to it so it wouldn't go over if I, dogs or cats tried

Glass at the top, plastic at the bottom (bought some specially), never had any problem. Had a “only one bauble to play with at a time” rule from the beginning.

If the toddler can't leave the tree alone I have seen a Christmas tree successfully put inside a playpen.
