Asking on the off chance that some of you will have some marvellous suggestions that I've not thought of!

Any quirky ideas welcome ...

Having only just survived, and coming out the other side of parenting a teenage boy I’d say booze, fags and drugs 😂 and a condom…

Watching with interest as DS is also (almost) 17 at Christmas. His stocking will contain

Pants and socks (it's a tradition)
Chocolate Santa
Guitar strings
An aftershave mini (he likes the M&S ones)
A music magazine rolled up
A PlayStation gift card

I'm on the lookout for a nice wallet for him but depending on style/price that might be more of a present than a stocking gift.

It's really hard because to my mind the stocking is a mix of traditional stuff like the pants and chocolate and a few low cost fun things related to interests & hobbies but everything is getting expensive and the stocking could end up costing as much as a decent gift.

Nano bricks are fun. Like tiny Lego for older ones! Would fit well in an advent calendar too. You could Chuck in a few different pieces in a few days worth to eke it out!

TheGirlWhoLived · 29/09/2023 11:25

@TheBucktoothedGirlFromLuxembourg tk max have great trendy wallets at a fraction of the rrp. (Hark at me using ‘trendy’ like I’m 70, I’m only 34 promise 😂)

sipsqueak · 29/09/2023 11:25

@TheBucktoothedGirlFromLuxembourg that's sounds like a lovely stocking although I'm genuinely curious if teens these days actually need/use wallets?

TheBucktoothedGirlFromLuxembourg · 29/09/2023 11:27

Ha @TheGirlWhoLived I was actually on the tkmaxx website when the notification came through that you had mentioned me!

TheBucktoothedGirlFromLuxembourg · 29/09/2023 11:30

@sipsqueak I'm going to do a bit of research over the next month or so. There's been a couple of occasions recently when he has mentioned that a wallet would be useful - a school trip and a charity event when they needed coins. Mostly he just shoves a tenner in the back of his phone or pays by phone/card.

CanIPutTheTreeUpYet · 29/09/2023 11:33

Costa/Greggs/local place food/drink voucher

Small aftershave from Next etc

Unusual American/Japanese etc snacks he won't have tried before

Novelty socks/boxers

Small cactus for his room? My son collects them and they take hardly no care.

Hot chocolate sachet/melty hotchoc on a spoon thing (my 15 yo likes a hot chocolate on winter mornings!) Or chocolate coins.

Games voucher/gaming place if hes a gamer to go towards games/new controller etc

Always buy a new charger as mine always breaks or loses his. He gets cheapy ones through the year but a semi expensive one for Christmas.

Power bank.

TheBucktoothedGirlFromLuxembourg · 29/09/2023 11:35

Many apologies @ManyOwls I read your title as stocking and answered a completely different question.

I just put a small chocolate in the advent calendar. Sorry, it's not very imaginative.

BoohooWoohoo · 29/09/2023 11:36

My 17yo would enjoy a gum, fizzy drink, instant noodle, cereal or crisps advent calendar

ManyOwls · 29/09/2023 12:16

Thanks for the ideas so far

@Scotsgirl001 I nhs be to draw a line at days but yeah, there'll be a few mini alcohols in there. He's fond of a Baileys, which surprises me but I'll add in a couple of minis of those

My ideas so far - and it's trickier for me he is has a well paying part time job so able to buy what he fancies -

Scratch cards
Mini bottles of alcohol
Phone bank charger - got loads but never had one to hand of course
Reeses peanut butter deep filled cups
Nike socks

Meant to say ' I draw a line at fags'

That was my exact thought maybe a card holder thingy instead😜

ManyOwls · 29/09/2023 12:27

I got mine a lovely Boss wallet a year or two ago and he doesn't really use it. He's also got a card wallet but same there too

I think with Apple Pay it's all about just tapping your phone these days

Mine has nicked his older brother's designer boxers where as his brother is now old enough to realise that the multipacks from Boohoo are just as comfortable and better value. Designer boxers aren't cheap so maybe for the 24th?

BoohooWoohoo · 29/09/2023 12:34

Mine uses Apple Pay and like many teens keeps his provisional license in his phone case for when he needs ID eg buying energy drinks.

TabbyBeast · 29/09/2023 18:17

My DS always gets earphones in his stocking as he's forever losing them! Just the cheap, colourful JVC ones

Next to his stocking he usually gets something like an American cereal or long pack of mini tubes of pringles etc.
