Toys with most play value - 6/7 yo

What toys have stood the test of time with your 6/7 year olds?

My DS no longer gets out the Playmobil, loves Lego but builds it then leaves it, and is more into building and experimenting with random junk than actual set toys. But he needs something to open on Christmas and I don’t want it to be something that will just fill a cupboard after a couple of days.

So I’m after your recommendations please - Doesn’t matter if it’s typically boy/girl related as he enjoys the best of both worlds!

Ideally a toy, not a game that needs multiple people, and ideally nothing gaming related or super noisy. We already have much Lego and Playmobil, a marble run, transformers, magnet tiles, a bunch of dress up and a cupboard full of craft! Thank you!

A football, DS still plays with his and he is 16. A bike, scooter or roller skates were all very popular.

Table football?

My nearly 6yr old ds is loving finger skateboards and ramps at the moment!

Lego (he’s now 9, but still makes things everyday)
chess
still loves his big plastic dinosaurs 🦖
Hot Wires was really popular, but might be a bit old for this year?

My son is very into lego. The kits usually get built once and then he just likes to experiment.

He's just discovered Pokemon so I'm going to get him some cards and an album to collect them in.

Magnetic Tiles looking good too. Adding to list...

My DS used to love meccano, bought because we played with it lots it as kids too. Once he'd made the object the kit was designed for, he would see what else he could make with it.

He also really enjoyed a magic set. Kept him occupied for ages and was very proud of his tricks!

Really simple things like a yo-yo and a book if yo-yo tricks went down well.

Juggling balls & diablo

My ds loves inventing with them. We've had all sorts of structures and contraptions. I recommend them to everyone for play value)and the tools themselves don't take up amy space, although the inventions may!)

I know you said no to craft, but hama beads went down very well here at that age. We got a big box of non branded ones from amazon.

Also there's games that are single player and use logic. We like rush hour.

Also agree with stomp rocket, we've had loads of fun in parks with it! Do you have room for a trampoline? Does he have scooter or roller skates?

A giant squishmallow has been very popular with my dds, they like to lay on it when reading/playing on their tablets. Goes to sleepovers and lives on their beds! Loads of designs available.

Also on the cosy theme, fleecy blankets, giant oodie style hoodie both well loved!

My eldest daughter started collecting funko pop figures around that age. She displays them on shelves in her room still at 14.

Bumping I'm looking for ideas for nearly 7yo.

Wow all these children who play with toys, my grandson is this age and his favourite things to play with are sticks and the cat's toys.

He does like Lego but has a tendency to leave tiny studs all over the floor
