Posca Pens

Before I buy these for my arty but slightly chaotic 8 year old...

Are they worth it?
What do your children use them on?
Are there any bits I can buy for her to use the pens on? Like little projects I could set up ready for her before she gets tempted to ink her school shoes.
Lastly, any good deals on them or best place to buy them?
Bonus question- does anyone recommend any particular normal felt pens we seem to go through loads.

Thanks ❤️🎅🎄

I paint on shoes as a job and was recommended them by a fellow shoe artist! So maybe get her some cheap converse style shoes that she’s supposed to draw on? Also maybe those little paper mache blank animals etc that hobby craft sell for decoupage. They would be fun to paint and draw on.

TBH I find them a bit of a faff to use as the paint dries on the nibs if they’re not used often, so I end up running them under water to freshen them up. For general drawing purposes she’d be better off with a big pack of proper colouring pens, like these which are a cheap dupe of the posh markers, so it won’t matter if she leaves the lids off etc! My DD had a super expensive pen set a couple of years ago when she loved drawing but then went off onto other hobbies and they barely got used. £150 totally wasted!

I bought some for my DD last Christmas when she was turning 7. I also got her a variety of things to decorate- a notebook with a plain white cover, some little wooden people & fairy doors, can’t recall now what else.
lots of choice in the works or hobby craft for stuff like this.
She has used them to decorate various things- rocks off the beach, cheap ceramics, some fabrics & the wooden items mentioned above.

The pens themselves were half price in hobby craft- this was around October last year I think.
We did end up getting another bigger set of ‘cheap’ acrylic paint pens off Amazon too, so she had more variety of colours.
These also seem to have lasted well. They are more like a felt tip rather than the poscas where you have to pump them up & down a bit to get the paint flowing.

I bought Posca pens for my DD last Christmas. They are great and have been used to death! We actually bought her another set for her birthday as she loved them so much and wanted the thinner nibs. Massive hit again. I bought her a few 'blanks' to use them on, including ceramic baubles, pencil case, canvases, pebbles but the best one was a just a pad of black art paper. It looks so effective.

I bought the first set half price in Hobbycraft in maybe October time. I kept looking for a similar deal in the run up to her birthday but there was nothing. I got maybe 25% off the second set but still quite expensive. I knew she'd love them though.

My 9 year old sons been obsessed with these for a while and we got him a pack of 6 in Tesco's at Easter for about £15 and he loved them so much we had to buy more a few weeks later . He currently uses them for everything and we go through a 6 pack everyday 2 ish weeks so we're going to get him a giant set (hopefully if we can find one ) for Christmas. Don't bother with the cheaper alternatives there a bit crap and end up a waste of money .

Definitely get the real thing. Rymans does sets of them. They are amazing!

I got Posca sets half price at Hobbycraft last year too! I've been hanging on for a good deal to buy more but I've just bought from Hobbycraft again. They're 25% off plus I have a 15% code from signing up for their club (mailing list) which you can do at the top of their website. It still means some of the sets are a similar price to the Amazon price so it depends which set you want as to where to get it.
I've spent too long looking at Posca pen sets!!

We've decorated (home-made) clay dishes, conkers and wine corks amongst other things.

I love Posca pens. The different nibs allow all sorts of interesting options for projects. Pebble painting is great especially if you hide them for other people to find. I’m a member of the Korp Academy which runs online Posca classes which can be done live or on catch up. They are so much fun and the members include children and adults.
