Doesn't have to be expensive but equally budget isn't a problem

What they don't need/can't have/already have:
clothes (including nightwear/ slippers etc)
weighted blanket
dementia clocks
books
jigsaws
edibles (dietary requirements + all food provided)
gift cards2 experiences (including vouchers for afternoon teas etc)
jewellery
photo frames / photo books
magazine subscriptions

Am at a loss
books
plants
technology - can't use phone/Alexa/audio books etc)

Stocking will already include every day items - toiletries, underwear, socks etc

Things we got my grandmother which went down well

  • new bedding
  • a rug for just by her bed so it was really soft when she got up
  • a flower delivery
  • (having checked with the home) a bird feeder for outside her room

I don't know if you have young DC but you can get "stained glass" colouring in books (just tracing paper) which you can then put up in a window. DD used to do one each week and take it along. They had a little chat about it and then it went up in the window and was replaced the following week.

My daughters sent a Christmas package to a male resident of the care home. They were just given a first name and address. It was through a charity. Their lovely gentleman sent a thank you back. He appreciated all items but particularly liked
Fairy lights with his name on them ( Dealz)
Hand held puzzles
A war time songs cd
Hand warmers

My grandfather has Alzheimer's and has been in a care home for several years. Over the last year or two I haven't been able to get him proper gifts like I would have in previous years - but I have found a helium balloon really makes him smile. I pop it inside a decorated box and he will open it up over and over again.

My grandmother was in a care home for the last year of her life, she didn't suffer from dementia or Alzheimer's so gifts were easier. Her favourite every year was a wall calendar in which I would put photos of her great grandchildren on - each month had a different photo on

I used to always buy my grandad a set of posh hanker-chiefs every year until he died.

Last year I got my Nan hotter slippers, an outfit from Edinburgh wool mill and fudge.

This year so far, I'm thinking of getting her a reed diffuser - next ones smell lovely

Oh and I also got my Nan an Alexa echo dot a couple of years ago which has been extremely useful once we taught her how to use it

For her birthday I got my mum (dementia and 4 years on a care home) an old fashioned red telephone with a recover and cord etc. it takes a SIM card so it's effectively a mobile that's not mobile. She loves having a phone on her room. I rarely catch her to speak to her, she's usually doing g an activity but the phone ☎️ makes her feel connected.

Not much to add but a personalised coaster makes a nice small gift.

I love that - practical but doesn't take up much space
