Kids baking hamper

Hi,

I am planning to do a little hamper with some baking accessories and stuff for my DD.

She really likes baking with her Gran and has said she would like some of her own stuff for home. And will make a nice change from buying yet more dolls!

I have picked up a Disney themed whisk and spatula from Asda. Thought I’d seen stuff like this in Primark before but they didn’t have anything in when I went over the weekend.

Also, have thought of a little doughnut maker but what other little similar gadgets anyone can think of please?

A mixing bowl and some shaped silicone baking trays. You can often get coloured ones.

Fivemoreminutes1 · 30/08/2023 07:45

Kitchen timer
Apron
Tin for storing her cakes and bakes
Measuring spoons
Cookie cutters - https://www.wilko.com/en-uk/wilko-set-of-7-shaped-cookie-cutters/p/0435787

Food colourings to make different coloured buttercreams. You can sets of rainbow coloured colourings for example. The good stuff contain loads of artifical ingredients but you use a teeny amount. The more natural ones aren't as potent but good for a child.

A safe knife, you can get really pretty ones

A wooden spoon - you can get personalised ones on Amazon. DD had a "star baker" one.

Apron - can also be personalised.
Lots of sprinkles etc for putting on cupcakes
Lots of cupcake paper cases in different colours/patterns
A little mixing bowl

A cookbook with a message from you & the date written inside the cover.

A good set of measuring spoons she can use her whole life.

Get real implements, not kiddie stuff.

Cookie cutters in fun shapes (Lakeland have a good selection).

Mixing bowl (don’t get one for kids, if she’s going to use it then you’ll want a full sized one so the ingredients don’t go everywhere).

Bottles filled with the ingredients to make a particular recipe (https://bottledbaking.co.uk/collections/children)

Fun decorations (sprinkles and sweets, icing, cake toppers, flavouring, food colouring etc) and cake cases.

Nice apron (these are lovely: https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1144719322/personalised-rainbow-apron-personalised?click_key=59f02e196426f0d74e57845d62dcd9d86609997d%3A1144719322&click_sum=ba7b0d86&ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=kids+apron&ref=sr_gallery-1-3&etp=1&sts=1)

(I love the idea that someone had of writing a nice note at the front).

I imagine you have most of the practical baking stuff already so I’d focus on the fun/pretty stuff.

SnowJamz · 31/08/2023 15:48

Thank you all so much for the suggestions. Going to go through them all now 😀

Not sure if they're back doing the baking kits yet but a bakedin box or when they restart them a bakedin subscription. I absolutely loved doing these with the kids. Everything comes in premeasured numbered bags and you can make all sorts of things you wouldn't normally bake!

Just a decent small knife will be much more effective and, ultimately, a lot easier to keep sharp. Teaching children to use knives safely and sensibly is a lot more productive than buying a so-called 'safe' knife.

My DC are now older teenagers and have been using small sharp knives (under age-appropriate supervision) since they were about 5.

Maplestars · 31/08/2023 20:51

This is such a lovely idea!
I think these ideas may have already been said, but cookie cutters in a shape she’d like, a baking recipe book, maybe a little note book and a nice pen if she wants write down any recipes gran teaches her
lots of sprinkles, some food colouring, a piping bag with some nice nozzles - even if she doesn’t bake she can practice writing and things with them.
you could do the basic ingredients in some nice cheap jars from the range, with some pretty labels on - flour, baking soda, chocolate chips etc. Lots of places sell ready made labels.
a rolling pin, some digital scales, some cup measurements and spoon measurements
a little chef hat and apron if you think she may like it
silicone moulds, and cupcake cases, a cake pop maker
there’s so much!

Bumble84 · 31/08/2023 20:55

I can’t really add much on top of what others have said but just wanted to say this is such a lovely idea. I would have absolutely loved getting this gift as a child, I was always in the kitchen wanting to make things.

PurpleWhirple · 31/08/2023 22:05

Lovely idea, I would have been thrilled with something like this as a kid. Not sure how old the child is, but this book is fab: Milk Bar: Kids Only: A Cookbook amzn.eu/d/51IML0P

My chef brother bought it for my DC and they use it lots, as do I

letmesailletmesail · 31/08/2023 22:38

You can get mini rolling pins with patterns printed of them. DS enjoyed using those when I did something similar for him one Christmas.
