Ideas for 5 year old DS (ASD)

I’m really stumped this year.

DS is 5. Really no interest in anything not more geared towards physical play and would rather be outside above anything else. Quite severe ASD and a massive sensory seeker. He absolutely loved the trampoline last year, has a swing set, slide, see-saw, paddling pools, water table… I’m just all out of ideas. We’re also moving next summer, so really don’t want something overly complicated to dismantle then rebuild. To be honest I’d love something to coax him indoors when it’s bloody freezing and I really would rather not be in the garden/park/woods 😁

Does anyone have any suggestions? I think budget wise I’d say £200 at a cap, but would happily pay more for sobering he’d really love.

Tp toys do a nest swing thing that I think you could hang from the ceiling if you found a joist. Can also be hung from a swing set outside. I really want one for my sensory seeking ds too. It's around £90, in blue or black.
You could get other gross motor type indoor toys like stepping stones, a wobble board. Might tempt him indoors?

A whizzy dizzy or Gonge carousel- my 6yo loves spinning and feeling disoriented and these have both been huge hits

We have a indoor climbing frame, if you Google pikler climbing frame you'll see tons of different shapes and sizes. We paid around £250 and it has been played on every day for the last three years. When my daughter turned four we bought her bunk beds with a slide attached to it. Also very popular. Ours both love tepees and play houses.

You can get soft play sets as well, which are really fun.

Have a look at wobbel boards... great for indoor or outdoor play and you can add accessories too

Giant piano musical mat - you can get ones with flashing keys. My nephew has this one

Also, the Chad valley mega ball run. It has lights and sounds.

We got ds a metal detector and a child sized garden spade. Of course it depends how you feel about having holes in your garden. I buried some random bits of metal (old coin, hinge, a broken key, but and bolt) in a bed at the end of the garden. He used to invite friends over to dig for dinosaur bones after they found some big rocks fossils.

These are all fantastic ideas! Thank you all so much 😊

My little ASD sensory seeker has just gone absolutely bananas over a dark sensory tent. Basically a black tent. He takes his cushions and weighted blankets in. Also big hits are flashing lights, lava lamps, colour change lights with fish in. Colour change cars that go in water. Slides for the cars to plunge them into the water.

ChillysWaterBottle · 24/08/2023 19:07

@vintagechristmas hello do you have a link for these colour change cars? x

ChillysWaterBottle · 24/08/2023 19:16

@vintagechristmas amazing thank you
(Sorry to have derailed your thread OP) x

Our best purchase has been a hook in the ceiling and a variety of swings/ladder to change round. The most used being the fabric stretchy fabric yoga type one. We also put it on a spring so it bounces a bit too. I'm about to get a gonge carousel too.
