Balsam Hill Xmas Tree

I have previously purchased a tree from Balsam Hill in 2019 so pre covid times. They sent an email today about a sale offering 20% off so thought I’d have a look as would like a tree for our kitchen.

Well talk about price inflation, the tree I bought previously was £349 and is now priced at 649!
They also had a sale when I bought mine so only paid 279 in total. This just seems a crazy price rise so won’t be buying from them, a shame as I love the tree we bought.

Why were you looking to buy a tree if you only bought one in 2019?

I agree the inflation is terrible, but surely this trees are supposed to last a lifetime?

I completely glazed over that 🤦

We got our 7 footer in the sale last year for £400 ish. Worth keeping an eye out, they often discount (and we got it just before Xmas as well!)

Or maybe it was 2 years ago to be fair.... as I remember getting out the loft last year

For those of you hoping for a post Christmas bargain, we have a Balsam Hill tree (European Fir) and I wouldn’t honestly recommend it. It’s incredibly heavy and bulky so you need to think where it will live for 11 months of the year. In terms of appearance it’s better than most but it’s unmistakably artificial.

Gizlotsmum · 09/12/2023 10:18

I brought one in the sale this year, needed a smaller tree, can’t have real ones. I really like it and was less than £180. My big tree is also artificial and has lasted well so far (not Balsam Hill). I think the Balsam Hill one is more realistic ( although accept you can tell it isn’t real)

If you have a small plot in your garden or a balcony why not buy a real potted tree? Ours was £60 a few years ago, still going strong. We leave it in the pot and dig it into a small patch after Christmas - water during hot periods but that's it. The roots can't spread so no issues there. My sister keeps hers in a pot on her patio. Surely better value long term? Cheaper, you get a real tree and more sustainable.

@Camembertcufflinks I had potted trees but they all died over the hot summer a couple of years ago.

@Gizlotsmum Norwegian blue spruce are the hardiest - daily watering through the 40degree summer kept mine going through the heatwave. I have two, The nordman fir struggled but is slowly regaining its needles.
