Christmas cookbooks

It’s only taken one hot, summery day for me to reach for my Christmas cookbooks to feel
cooler!

I’ve got a big collection, partly real books and partly on Kindle. Mostly the obvious ones like Nigella, Delia, Jamie, but a couple more unusual ones.

Has anyone got a more unusual or old cookbook to recommend? And - what’s your favourite and why?

I like books that have more than just recipes in them, but some context and perhaps even some crafts. I have and use the following:

  • Nigel Slater's Christmas Chronicles
  • The Irish Countrywomen's Association Book of Christmas
  • Advent: Festive German Bakes to Celebrate the Coming of Christmas by Anja Dunk - adore this book and use it a lot in advent.

I love Christmas cookbooks and I have loads. I have and would also recommend the three that @Flowersinamilkbottle has mentioned.

My addition is Christmas at Highclere Castle, not necessarily for the recipes but a lovely read.

There’s a nice Mary Berry one I have. I think it’s called The Twelve Days of Christmas.

I might be back once I’ve examined my book shelf.

I bought Vegan Christmas by Audrey Fitzjohn late last year and was really impressed with it. All the baked goods were yeasted rather than using vinegar/bicarb or other weird alchemy to replace eggs, which is clever and unusual.
I made the mushroom wellington and it was lovely, can’t wait to try more this year.

I have Sarah Raven and the Hairy Bikers' Christmas books. And a kids Christmas cookies one (which never actually gets used).

I have the regular ICA cookbook (DM gave a copy each to all her DCs one Christmas as there's a seasonal recipe in there "from" her...but she never made that one in her life! DB has though and we all ask him every Christmas if he's doing it this year as according to the blurb "in our house, Christmas isn't Christmas without X" 🤣) - but I can't find the actual Christmas one anywhere.

I think my favourite has to be Nigella Christmas. Or maybe Nigel Slater’s Christmas Chronicles. Or maybe Christmas at Highclere…. I don’t bake a massive amount from each book, but I love to read them every year ❤️

I started buying Christmas books rather than magazines as i was becoming increasingly disappointed in the mags, little new stuff after 4 decades of 'doing' Christmas. I look out for them in charity shops all year round, so watching this thread with interest to see what is recommended multiple times that I don't have. My most used continues to be Delia's, which I know you already have OP. I also like the Hairy Bikers 12 Days of Christmas. I do use the others I have but not as much

Not a book, but I spent a lovely 45 mins with a Christmas Nigella episode on iPlayer last week.

gives me plenty of time to plan Christmas 🤶 lol

Joyce Dimbleby. The book that was Christmas when I was a child, recently reissued.

Every recipe an absolute winner.

I came here just to recommend the Anka Dunk Advent book. It's absolutely wonderful (as are all her books).
