How to "do" christmas lights?

Very random but I'm about to have electrical work done on the house & was wondering how people decorate their front houses with outdoor lights. I never seen wires anywhere. Do you use outdoor plugs?

I just feed through the an open window and then close the window.

@MonkeyPuddle that's what I assumed initially but i noticed that not many others seem to do this.

The majority of lights which are suitable for outside need to be plugged in indoors. I can’t say that I have ever noticed when passing houses with lights on as to where they are plugged in. Ours used to go out the catflap, but as we no longer have it, they go out of a window.

We have a pair of outdoor plugs in the porch.

Our lights are battery powered.

We had outdoor sockets fitted at the front and back of the house.
The front one has a spur switch inside so we can be lazy and turn the Xmas lights off from inside as we go to bed and just in case a cheeky neighbour tries to steal electricity from it at any point . It is only used for the Xmas lights and hoovering the car. We also have exterior battery-operated lights on the front fence, and the cables that come with the lights wouldn't reach the socket.
The back garden socket is mostly used for mowing the lawn, the hedge trimmer, and inflating the paddling pool, but also runs the electric coolbox full of drinks when we have people over for BBQs in the summer.
