When to stop leaving a snack for santa…?

I wasn’t going to…I don’t need to anymore…my youngest is almost 16…but I just couldn’t go up to bed without leaving the obligatory snack and drink for him.

in my defence I’ve been doing this for 25 years now so it’s kind of a habit, but really I need to stop!!

anyone else still do this even though their kids are far too old to believe…? Or is it just me 😂

No but it’s awfully cute

Watto1 · 25/12/2022 00:46

Unexpectedly this year when my youngest is 13. He fell asleep after a crazy busy day before we had chance!

Starlightstarbright1 · 25/12/2022 00:50

I think it was about 12/13. I asked my ds if he wanted to.. he said Nahhh.. not mentioned it since.

motherstongue · 25/12/2022 00:59

I have a 24 year old and 18 year old and after we’d gone out for a lovely meal this evening, they came home, rushed outdoors at 10,30 pm to spread reindeer food and left a drink and snack for Santa 😂 I am bemused! But happy to indulge.

Gronkle · 25/12/2022 01:01

My sister is staying with my parents tonight, the people on the house tonight are 60, 67, 79 and 80. They're putting a Santa snack out, lol

ouch44 · 25/12/2022 01:05

We put one out. DC are 16 and 14. They asked what Dad fancied to drink? 😂
They asked if we could read The Night Before Xmas but we didn't get round to it. I think it might be the first time! I think it makes them more excited!

Whatwouldnanado · 25/12/2022 01:12

Just found DH putting out a glass of port. I added the mince pie and carrot for the reindeer. Kids are 18 and 21 and I'm waiting for them to go to sleep. They humour us.

TulipTuesday · 25/12/2022 01:14

I read that, and another Christmas book we’ve had for years, to my 17yo DS tonight 😄

Every year he still wants me to read it to him. I love that he still wants to keep his childhood traditions. We did however stop putting Santa snacks out about 4/5 years ago.

Walkingtheplank · 25/12/2022 01:16

Our DCs are 16 and 14. I asked today if they wanted to leave a snack for Santa. They said we could only if it was important to me. So we've knocked that one on the head!

Offleyhoo · 25/12/2022 01:20

I forgot to put the carrot out though my adult dcs sweetly wrote Santa notes and, erm, Santa has replied.

lilyfire · 25/12/2022 01:20

Was just about to write that this year will be the first we’ve not done it when DH told me our 14 yo is sorting out a carrot, mince pie and milk for Santa.

JenniferWooley · 25/12/2022 01:23

DD is 21... she left a cupcake for Santa & a carrot for Rudolph. She also had a panic when she couldn't find the "Santa plate" that we've had for about 15 years so I think we'll do it until she leaves home she's never leaving home

CafeCremeMerci · 25/12/2022 01:25

I'm staying with friends, I do most years. A couple of minutes ago, I realised that no snack or drink had been left for Santa & the reindeer. It seems really sad. (They're 16 & 18 now mind). I miss them being little!!

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 25/12/2022 01:26

I don't know - but my sister and I, as older teens, used to leave out the snack plate before we went out for the evening and then consume its contents on our drunken return. It was so lovely. Didn't stop til we left home.

Stichintime · 25/12/2022 01:30

Never had this tradition, but first year with no stocking... poor babies have to actually leave their beds and venture downstairs if they want chocolate and presents. I hope there's not too many tears (30, 25, 23)

reluctantbrit · 25/12/2022 10:19

DD is 15 and left port and marzipan out for Santa. She also writes a list.

I got a present from Father Christmas.

bestert · 25/12/2022 10:51

I leave. I love to eat cookies at night)))

When to stop leaving a snack for santa…?
DappledThings · 25/12/2022 13:01

DC are 6 and 5. 6 year old already knows. So reckon we might have 1 or 2 more years with younger one. Can't imagine doing it once they both know. I'd feel really awkward. I'm crap with this stuff. DH is much better so it will probably be up to him

Tumbleweed101 · 25/12/2022 13:05

Went on until my youngest was 12 and then she wasn't interested in any of it. I was sad as I'd been doing it for 24yrs at that point!

SpeedyMackechnie · 25/12/2022 14:47

My 17 year old was devastated this morning when she realised she and her 14 year old brother had forgotten to leave anything out for Santa 🤣

They still insist on putting out reindeer dust before they get into their new pyjamas, which still arrive under their pillows after the reindeer dust 😁

Rowgtfc72 · 25/12/2022 15:30

Dd is 15 and said not to bother this year. We still haven't watched polar express either.

lucysmam · 25/12/2022 20:03

Mine are almost 13 and almost 16 and left a snack and Baileys out for Santa, and carrott for the reindeer. We'll carry on as long as they want to

Comedycook · 25/12/2022 20:08

Last night I played Santa..we also left milk, a carrot and a mince pie out...my eldest is 14 and obviously doesn't believe. Dh said it was ridiculous and asked how long I'll keep doing it? Answer..until they leave home.
