We're hosting my MIL & FIL who will come over here late morning. We'll open presents first and then plan to eat about 2.30pm

I had planned on making mini puff pastry mince pie Christmas trees with shop bought gluten free pastry as my FIL is coeliac along with mulled wine but I can't get GF pastry for love nor money. I really don't have time to be making anything elaborate but can't think what I could give them that's not too filling but nice to have before hand.

One year we had smoked salmon stars filled with creamcheese which were delicious - think they were from Asda.

Mini egg muffins - very easy, can be made in advance and refrigerated. Totally gluten free, can make them with anything and they’re a nice little amuse bouche.

We're having red pepper soup, as far as I can remember it doesn't have a thickener but you could use a potato to thicken it

I am gluten free - you can make bruschetta- tomato based if you like with Gluteb free part baked rolls- and / or nice dips like artichoke etc if you're wanting to make something, olives nuts etc are all good with champagne
Coop has a good gluten free range as does Tesco / Asda

Blinis with sour cream and smoked salmon and a glass of something sparkling. That's my plan. Not bought any of it!

ThinWomansBrain · 22/12/2022 19:00

I'd go for smoked salmon blinis - with a gf toast/biscuit option for the person with coeliac disease, but agree with PP, the egg based mini muffins sound a great option.

Not GF, and would prefer savoury pre-dinner, but had specculoos mince tarts in the week - tons nicer than mince pies with all the bland gloopy pastry.

It's definitely my vibe and tbh what I'll probably do! Just thought it's be nice to do something a bit different seeing as my FIL misses out on so much because of his dietary requirements.

Just to say pringles are not gluten free Sad but there are lots of other sharing crisps that are.

That would have been a great idea. Not sure I'd get them from anywhere near where I live unfortunately.

They are very easy to make, whipped egg whites, caster sugar, dessicated coconut and I like to swap out some of the coconut for ground almonds, makes for a nicer mouth feel, bake on a low temp and then drizzle with dark choc when cool. Plenty of recipes if you Google. The BBC good foods one was my base recipe. I make them for my mum who is GF and DF.

Fresh figs cut in half, push in a small piece of goats cheese, sprinkle some crushed pistachios on top and a drizzle of honey. GF, vegetarian and tasty!

Benjispruce4 · 22/12/2022 19:22

GF tortilla chips- used as a holder for mushroom pate or cream cheese mixed with smoked paprika and chives.
