If we check the dates obvs. Buying the turkey, stuffing, pigs in blankets white sauce gravy etc (we are having a very lazy Christmas dinner) that should be OK - shouldn't it??

Of course, it’s fine. What is worrying you?

Nagado · 22/12/2022 16:04

Yeah of course. If the dates are good and you’ve kept them in the fridge, it’ll all be fine.

WeAreTheHeroes · 22/12/2022 16:05

Yes - it's in three days' time. It'll be fine. It's not as if there's really enough time to freeze it and defrost it to cook.

I’m in the US and we got hit by an epic storm last night. We knew it was coming so like everyone we went to the shops yesterday and bought everything for Christmas eating. We made sure to check dates, especially on meat we got from the butcher, but we used a trusted source and believe his advice. We got both turkey and beef. Lots of fresh herbs, fruit, and vegetables.

Lkydfju · 22/12/2022 16:10

That’s what I’ve done and just checked dates

Ihavedogs · 22/12/2022 16:18

We are not scheduled to host on Christmas Day this year, but have bought everything that has a long enough date. We will either get our normal shop tonight or tomorrow morning which is when we would have bought the food if we had been hosting.

LadyKenya · 22/12/2022 16:22

Why would it not be okay? Christmas is on Sunday. Unless you are buying a yellow sticker turkey today, which I would pop in the freezer.🦃

BarrelOfOtters · 22/12/2022 16:26

Ta. Thought it would be just sort of checking...

Bought mine yesterday for cooking on Boxing Day - chicken dated 27th, pigs and pork stuffing dated 29th. Stored properly and within date it should be perfectly fine - in fact stored properly things like potatoes and carrots should be fine well into New Year. People very commonly buy food a week at a time and it keeps!

chary · 22/12/2022 16:29

do this every year

longtompot · 22/12/2022 16:32

We bought ours Tuesday and I froze the turkey crown, even though it would be on date but didn't want to risk it. As it's just a small crown it'll defrost in time. But, yours will be fine getting it today. Just check the dates

koalab · 22/12/2022 16:43

Did mine yesterday, hosting on boxing day. Dates were fine.

Poppins17 · 22/12/2022 16:45

Yes, I bought some things yesterday and the rest today. It will be fine.

CakeCrumbs44 · 22/12/2022 16:48

Why wouldn't it be fine? Doesn't make a difference if they're in your fridge or the fridge at the supermarket, if the dates are fine.

WaddleAway · 22/12/2022 16:50

Why wouldn’t it be? Most people don’t go shopping for fresh food every 2 days so regularly eat fresh food that’s a week old…

miltonj · 22/12/2022 16:56

Will a turkey crown be ok in the fridge? We picked it up from the butchers today and I'm worried because I've googled it and it's said it will go bad in 1-2 days? But reading this thread is conflicting that!

maddiemookins16mum · 22/12/2022 17:04
