I think I can finally see why some people find the big day so overwhelming. All the excitement and hype, not to mention the stress of "have I bought enough presents for XYZ", "have we got enough food for our 7382 guests?", "Oh look at Mr & Mrs Dickens' lights display down the road, let's go buy 50 more light up reindeers".
In reality, Xmas day for this house will be the kids waking up around 8, they'll open their presents, they'll have junk for breakfast, then for lunch half of us will have our standard roast dinner but with stuffing and pigs in blankets as well whilst two DCs will have pizza. Then they'll do their own thing or ask for stuff to be built, followed by grandparents coming round for an hour in the afternoon, more junk for tea and before you know it, the day is over. I am absolutely fine with this. Just "chill out" time.
I don't understand why other people choose to go ham and evolve into Gordon Ramsay/Jamie Oliver/Michel Roux 2.0 and deliver a 20-course fine dining experience. I don't understand why some people compare what's been bought or who has done more and subsequently try and outdo them, just why?
Point is, it's one day of the year - You don't need to have an aneurysm or stress induced stroke because of it.🌲
