Christmas day drinks for teens?

Just wondering really what everyone else does.
I remember being allowed a little bottle of Castaway with my Christmas dinner when I was 15 😁
Now I have teens of my own. Nearly 20 year old has never been interested in alcohol so has never tried it, 15 year old totally different though and you know he'd give a small drink a go if you let him. 🙄😁
Maybe a small bucks fizz or something?

No point asking you will get judged either way. Your older kid not bothered so not likes you pushed them to have a drink. But if 15 year old wants a drink then their gonna get drunk on a park or random place, so even if you let them get drunk at home now they're safe, but you know your child and what you thinks the best choice.

Dd 16 will probably make and drink some cocktails as that's what she does for work (back bar in a restaurant - not serving before anyone jumps on that!)

Just a couple

Most of her friends now drink sourz or vodka & lemonade

PingPongMerrilyWithPie · 21/12/2022 08:53

We started off letting ours have a wine spritzer, like we would have done at her age, but she has so little interest in alcohol it felt a bit like we were pushing her, so we stopped.

We'd probably let her have some wine if she pushed for it, but I don't think she will. Not sure this is something we should be "child led" on but there we are. I think the evidence these days is against normalising it at home, as per PP's DH's experience.

Tesco and Iceland sell Babycham. I'm going to get some for nostalgia

I think my parents allowed me glass of rose or white wine. Prosecco would be too dry for my taste back then (unlike now hah).

We were always allowed a small champagne before dinner and a glass of wine with from about 14/15. I can’t remember where it blurred into just being allowed to have whatever you want but it was probably about 17. No alcopops though, it was all “proper” alcohol. My nephew is 14 and he is allowed a glass of champagne and a beer on special occasions - he doesn’t generally drink the champagne beyond a sip with the “clink” though.

My teens (18 and 16) have requested sparkly J2o like usual. They have absolutely no interest in drinking at all.

If only all kids were like yours. Alcohol is completely unnecessary at that age (or ever). Even at almost 40, I'd rather drink a J2O than wine.

I wouldn't be offering my teens anything alcoholic just because it's Christmas.

Fruit cider is my ds’s (17) choice. He likes the Old Mount Pineapple and Raspberry. He’s not really bothered about alcohol, only ever has one and makes it last for hours. Think he’s just having it to be grown up.
I was sneaking all sorts of alcohol by his age, but I don’t think kids are generally as interested in alcohol as we were back in the day.
Maybe he just socialises with a particularly sensible crowd.

I let my 18 yo dd choose in Sainsbury, and she got some cans of rum and coke as she quite liked that at a friend's party. She will share some bottles of rose wine with us, but doesn't like dry or red ones.

SolitaryMind · 21/12/2022 17:07

Pre teen will be on J20, 16 year old ds will have a few bottles of beer, until I say ‘enough’

reluctantbrit · 21/12/2022 17:54

We offer Prosecco or Champagne but so far DD is not interested. Neither does she like wine or wine spritzer.

Maybe a cider but not sure.

We have otherwise:
Zero alcohol cider
Appletiser and Rasperry Lemonade in a champagne glass

@Fuuuuuckit omg a blast away! Are you scottish? None of my friends remember this.

Vinylloving · 21/12/2022 18:52
