Open and willing to all ideas! 6/8 adults
I was planning slow cooked beef
Bread rolls
Horseradish etc
A spicy chicken sliced up
Pitta breads
Salad
Pigs in blankets

What else can I add?

I'd say you're missing a carb and veg, so I'd add;
Jacket potatoes
Salads
Green veg

DancingSober · 20/12/2022 08:07

If you want another main, maybe something like a lasagne, moussaka or a curry, but two is plenty I think for 6/8

Charlavail · 20/12/2022 08:09

Thank you!
I will also obviously do dessert. Forgot to write that in the OP.

It seems a bit strange to have salad with roast beef and pigs in blankets. I'd do a cooked vegetable side instead.

You don't need pitta breads and bread rolls - replace one with a potato/ rice/ cooked carb-based side.

Charlavail · 20/12/2022 08:16

The beef is served cold like to have in a sandwich. The pigs are on the side as DP loves them. Will add rice to the list :)

I would stick to one main but pad it more.

Slow cooked beef - Jamie Oliver pulled brisket chilli.
Baked potatoes in the oven too.
Sour cream / fresh chillis
Perhaps a wintery salad with roast peppers, tomatoes, Avocado and rocket with griddled lemon and olive oil.

A lighter dessert like pavlova.

mintdaisy · 20/12/2022 08:21

Sounds really nice. I presume you know you don't have any vegetarians. I'm not a vegetarian any more but am not a big meat eater so would like to see another veg based dish ideally.

Ocrumbs · 20/12/2022 08:22

Nachos
Mince pie
Lasange

FusionChefGeoff · 20/12/2022 08:27

How about sliced / roasted med veg like a salad / garnish to load into pittas?

TentoFive · 20/12/2022 08:30

I’m a bit confused by what you are going for here. Is it a buffet?
Pitta breads and bread rolls and rice seems weird.
Three different types of meat, some hot, some cold…
I prefer a less is more approach on Christmas Eve as Christmas Day tends to be so OTT in terms of dishes.

Sparkletastic · 20/12/2022 08:34

So all cold food apart from the pigs in blankets? I think serving the beef hot with jackets might be more appealing.

choppolata · 20/12/2022 08:42

I'd add quite a robust winter salad, this is one of my favourites. beachhousekitchen.com/2017/12/05/roasted-winter-vegetable-salad/

tulips27 · 20/12/2022 08:46

I think if you do slow-cooked beef with vegetable sides and pigs in blankets is too much like Christmas dinner itself.

I'd do something totally different like pasta, pizza or curry TBH. People won't want to follow one Christmas dinner with another one the next day.

tulips27 · 20/12/2022 08:47

*it's too much

Favouritefruits · 20/12/2022 08:50

Sounds good to me!

Curry is amazing on Christmas eve

Quitelikeacatslife · 20/12/2022 09:05

Jacket potatoes, halved , scooped out mixed with cheese and butter then put back in oven , easy and tasty

Smogtopia · 20/12/2022 09:26

I agree it's a little too similar to Christmas dinner -
How about
Lasagne
Spicy chicken / slaw / spiced rice
Fish pie and buttered greens
Tandoori chicken pieces wrapped in naan with mint yoghurt
Roast lamb with harissa pomegranate and wraps with roast med veg
Seafood paella

You could always serve one tray of mini pigs in blankets as canapés :)

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 20/12/2022 09:41

I think you're over complicating it. If you know everyone eats beef, just do beef rolls (but hot beef) with a side eg coleslaw. Add an alternativefiller if you have non beef eaters. Add mountains of pigs in blankets.

I'm assuming most people will be having Christmas Dinner the following day so a simpler Christmas Eve meal might be appreciated. PPs have provided some fabulous suggestions but I think they are best kept for a time when people are likely to enjoy it more. And when you don't have Christmas to prepare for too.

Then a couple of desserts and a cheeseboard.

YuliaJollyberry · 20/12/2022 09:46

I’d add a winter slaw and some sort of sauce or sour cream to go with the spicy chicken which will be nice stuffed in a pita. I’d not include pigs in blankets.

Charlavail · 20/12/2022 10:07

Thanks for the suggestions
We have curry Christmas day so not too similar 😄

Oh 😄
Sounds great!

Crikeyalmighty · 20/12/2022 10:20

I make coconut beef from hairy bikers(it's a dry (no sauce) but very full flavoured curry) with coconut rice and poppadoms and a nice M&S lemon tart or similar

MissMaple82 · 20/12/2022 10:34

I think it's a slightly odd combo.. salad and pittas with roast beef. What is the theme? Sandwiches?
