What do your/will your fussy eaters eat for Xmas lunch???

OP posts:
RewildingAmbridge · 20/12/2022 19:38

So it isn't fussy to not eat a single form of potato? Didn't realise there was such a criteria for a thread about a meal. Lots of others on here whose children eat lots but have a particular quirk or fussiness, but me who gets the backlash.
It really isn't worth it. Enjoy your Christmas

FlemCandango · 20/12/2022 19:43

Pizza that he makes himself ( fresh dough/ pizza oven) we will have roast dinner vegetarian style. Works for us 😁

justcouldntthinkofausername · 20/12/2022 19:48

DH will eat meat, veg, yorkies, stuffing and gravy (no veg)
I'll do DS a Christmas dinner, the veg and meat will go overboard, he will probably pick at the yorkie, play with the brocolli then will be given a piece of toast or a soreen bar.
I, on the other hand will have the whole shebang. And I'll bloody enjoy it! Xmas Blush

Not being able to tolerate textures or food mixed together etc isn't a "quirk", but you're right. Omg Rewilding, you have such a fussy eater. It must be so hard to get through a week of meals with such dietary restrictions, please tell us how you do it.

Clearly fron this thread, it's pugs in blankets and pizza to the rescue. DS also loves pizza but I'll admit I would have held back at giving it him but you're all right, why shouldn't he have the food he wants. Pizza and pigs it is!

Dogsgottabone · 20/12/2022 20:04

DS has noodles (only the fine ones from M and S) and a slice of the Xmas ham.

I sympathise with each and every parent of an ASD child who cooks 2 or 3 meals at every meal time. Its exhausting some days.

SquigglePigs · 20/12/2022 20:10

My 4 yr old is middling on the fussy spectrum. I expect she will eat some of the veg (carrots and cauli cheese but not parsnips or sprouts), mashed potatoes, pigs in blankets (without the blanket!) and (all the ) gravy. I doubt she will eat any roast meat. She's 50/50 on yorkies and roast potatoes so that will depend on her mood on the day.

She will reject the lovely puds but I've got her a chocolate mousse as a treat.

Whitewolf2 · 20/12/2022 20:13

My fussy eater loves Yorkshire puds and drinks gravy out of them! So she’ll be having those with her favourite sausages.

My DS has Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder, and the ONLY hot food he eats is McDonald's fries. We are under dietitian, CAMHS, psychiatrist etc etc
Our local McDonald's is closed on Christmas Day, so I'm assuming he will eat nothing

Get a McDonald's fries packet, then buy lots of portions and freeze them. Reheat in the air fryer and for the last 30 seconds add the fries a key so that is also warm. A tiny bit of extra salt and they taste exactly like McDonald's fries. It's the only way my ASD child will eat McDonald's when we've not been.

McDonald's is the safe food but not every day can we get out and buy them so we tried this and it worked. Ours also needs to be in a McDonald's paper bag but we reuse the same one over and over again.

McNuggets can be frozen and reheated too. See also chicken selects. It's been a game changer. Im sure McDonald's near us think we're insane buying it in bulk but it works for us

FangedFrisbee · 20/12/2022 20:32

Fries packet not a key *

Sallyh87 · 20/12/2022 21:14

@chalkyc2 you can do potato waffles in the toaster.

Dustinsdart · 20/12/2022 21:16

Mine will eat Yorkshire pudding, Turkey & possibly some sausage. With a liberal coating of tomato ketchup!

StrawberryWater · 20/12/2022 21:38

Ds will have pasta, some Turkey (though I have to disguise it in breadcrumbs) and some carrots and green beans.

RudolphTheGreat · 20/12/2022 21:46

Nuggets mash and yorkie puds

GreenPeacock · 20/12/2022 22:32

Used to be nuggets and Yorkshire puddings. This year he’s discovered he likes sausages again and bacon so he may eat some pigs in blankets and Yorkshires. Possibly a roast potato but they are hit and miss. I have no problem making whatever he’ll eat because it’s his Christmas too.

sharalandar · 21/12/2022 06:24

My son will have pigs in blankets, minus the blankets and I'll put him some potato waffles in the toaster last minute. No gravy or sauce.. then demolish a tube of Pringles and a selection box afterwards 😂

MaverickSnoopy · 21/12/2022 06:52

My daughter HATES roast dinners. With a passion. She won't touch potatoes ever and she doesn't like most meat. I'm going to do her sausages as she doesn't like bacon on pigs in blankets. I'll do her a nice crusty roll and butter and she'll have some sweetcorn. She'll be ecstatic at this. The food is self serve on the table so she'll have the option to help herself to anything else if she changes her mind. She'll have a load of pudding.

I used to feel bad she didn't have much on Christmas Day, but I've come to the conclusion that it's my problem and not hers and she is perfectly happy with her small offering and is thrilled not to have to eat the roast. In my head people have lots of food for Christmas Dinner but she's not a big eater in the first place.

PragmaticWench · 21/12/2022 07:05

DS will inhale everything on the table, except red cabbage, all drowned in gravy and then come back for more.

DD will tolerate carrot, broccoli and roast potatoes. Not touching. Turkey won't be eaten as 'it's not chicken'. Every mouthful will be inspected first and eaten v e r y slowly.

Lastminutebride · 21/12/2022 07:07

We’ve got some food issues that have recently started, awaiting appointment with cahms for help.
theres a haigh possibility she’ll eat nothing, but if I can get her to sit down with us and eat then it’ll be pigs in blankets and Yorkshire pudding, with a lot of insistence maybe some peas.

MissGroves · 22/12/2022 20:46

@alwaysscared I really understand, my dd has asd and arfid (eldest also asd and I suspect pda but her diagnosis came via camhs rather than asd pathway so wasn't something we explored further).

I hope your ds manages something as I know how stressful it is when they can't eat.
